are we among another *muscle car era*
Ford has the SVT line up
Chrysler has the PVO GM has the SS even saturn has a supercharged car out. just about all makes of domestic vehicles has a *pumped up version* of there vehicle. I got my new motor trend last night in the mail, Shelby has introduced the 2007 mustang already :o it has the same 5.4ltr that the ford GT packs, this thing will be insane. I cant wait to see what the cobra and the SVT has to offer. (my wife is wanting a new mustang, i think i might have to save alot of $$ while in japan for the return home) ..my point, are we among another "muscle car era"? |
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
perhaps, buts its new age muscle for sure.
technology owns. I wanna see honda release a new hatchback (not like the SI's) with something over 200hp, that'd be cool ----. |
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
well ounce someone comes out with new supercar, they all have to try and top it. the thing is. i dont think this era is gonna pass for a long long time.
the rumors on the new 07' right out of Motor Trend http://img174.exs.cx/img174/3676/cobramt27ve.jpg http://img174.exs.cx/img174/7811/cobramt32ut.jpg |

Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
I work for ford here in detroit designing parts and whatnot, but I didnt get to see the shelby until the North American International auto show last week. There damn nice I must say, but by far, the Shelby was alot nicer.

well excuse the ---- out of me
|
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
so when is honda gonna make a car to actually try and get into the new trend of making big HP cars? the S2000 is okay but would get owned by any of these cars coming out. i think the type r has lost it's meaning, seems like now it is just a marketing tool for them. i think they should just bring back the 99 si, because everything after that has been complete crap and not to mention ugly.

and jeffsciv23, I agree. They need a better looking car with much more power. |
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
mabey another era but the GTO kinda looks like a grand am 400hp is good though
|
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
i don't consider any of today's new cars muscle, call me old fashioned call me stupid i just don't look at them that way
with the death of the SVT Lightning (yes it's deadd so SVT engineers could focus on the Mustang) i don't see "muscle trucks" making a huge impact either the SRT-10 is too damn expensive and the Joe Gibbs Performance SS is outpowered by the Lightning and SRT-10 |
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
They're high performance domestic cars, but you wouldn't consider them muscle cars?
|
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
that latest SCC SUCKED. >:(

when the real muscle car era began people bought bare-bones stripped down models of those cars with big block options back then the philosophy was big motor+no options+RWD+ relatively light car today it's small motor+options+RWD+decently heavy car yeah i know the SRT-10 and viper have the 8/8.3L V-10 but most people can't afford that, the most reasonable biggest motor available is the 5.7l or the 6l in the GTO maybe i'm just picky or too much of a purist, i don't even consider my stang a muscle car |
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
I can see what you're saying. It'd be nice if you could get a bare-bones Stang or something of the like with a 500 whp motor ;D

Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
exactly today's cars are too flashy and comfortable for me to consider them muscle cars
i'd be happy with any factory car with no options (not even a/c) with a 400HP motor factory :) |

|

Another muscle car era.... now that would run the world low on gas!

Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
GTO = overpriced Holden
SRT-4 = 4 cylinder, FWD Cobalt = 4 cylinder, FWD SVT Focus = 4 cylinder, FWD Saturn "?" = most likely 4 cylinder, FWD the GTO and Mustang are about the only cars even coming close to being muscle cars, ---- the GTO isn't even an American design the mustang has a 4.6, DOHC dogg :( SVT Lightning = no longer in production Hemi = decent, but by no means meant to be a tire roasting 1/4 mile terror SRT-10 = Overpriced Joe Gibbs Performannce SS = decently priced 385HP blown 5.3 (327) bare bones truck, has the most muslcle out of the 4 in my eyes |
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
cadalliac has the V line.
dodge has the r/ts and SRTs chevy has SS / Z ford SVT there is no real definition of what a muscle car is, but most people consider a muscle car a production car, with a big engine, lots of power, *yes they do have creature comforts*. big engine + no suspension / brakes to handle it :-p my SS chevelle had power steering & a/c and so did lots of other cars of the time & power windows ex... american cars continue to dominate the affordable performance car market. corvette mustangs magnum SRT4 GTO COLBALT SS HEMI 300c SS silverado CTS-V XLR SRT-10 RAM SVT lightning grand prix GTP (new LS4 5.3l V8) saturn ION redline SVT focus Monte carlo SS impala SS SRT Crossfire Ford GT Viper even the hemi powered Jeeps, RAMS, durangos are faster than most import cars, all hondas except S2k and NSX. Hemi durangos run low 15s stock. so does the Jeep. BTW most of these new V8 power'd cars have displacement on demand and get great gas mileage. |
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
the corvette, svt lightning, srt-10, gto, and the cts-v are all rather high priced, them being all over 30 grand, the svt lightning and gto at a few g's over 30, the vette's over 45 (for a bare-bones model), while the caddy is easily in the thirty's and the srt-10 over 50, not all that affordable IMO
|

but thats why affordable was in italics |
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
i see what ur sayin, but i guess IMO nothin newer then something from 1975 will be muscle car :-*
|
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
im tired of all the "retro" designs its just an excuse for them to copy old designs because they cant think up any new ones. i almost threw up when i saw the new mustang, i dont like mustangs to begin with but that jsut pissed me off >:(
i've seen pics of a new charger, falcon, and camaro only 1 that looks decent is the falcon(austraillian touring car) |
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
Time for round 3 of the muscle car era.
I was born during the first round, caught the car bug in second round, now ready for round three. |
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
Honda should go back down the CRX route. And everyone else needs to stop stuffing their cars with crap that a race doesn't require. If I wanted that I'd get a mini van.
|
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
did you guys see the new z06 yet? its ------- sick 500whp, runs 11s stock, 6 piston calipers, and sticking to its heritage, shitty plastic interior, they are going to sell them for a whopping 70k lol. its 3 inches wider than standard corvettes, and there using wider wheels and tires.
|
Re:are we among another *muscle car era*
I saw a new vette up close, and it looks kinda weird IMO. It looked to high, and I prefer the old front end.
