definitely out the top.. an engine hoist is the way to do it, and if you dont have one, you can rent one.

take it all out(motor and tranny)

---- no, you leave the tranny in. Engine comes out the top with a basic cherry picker.

Axles stay in tranny stays in.. makes it very easy, I've done dozens and dozens of honda/acura engines and its by far the easiest way.
