want to paint wheels..need feedback on color and brand!
IM on a budget here so dont go telling me to have them powdre coated cause if i had the money for it i wouldnt be posting this!!! with that said.....
Have any of you painted your wheels, stocks whatever and what color? what brand of spray paint? i saw this guy had some VX wheels painted like a dark gunmetal/bronze looking color...and i cant seem to find any of that type of paint at PepBoys, Kragen, or Autozone. anyone know where to get some nice colors? |

go to wal-mart. they have alot of paint. and make sure you LIGHTLY scuff your wheels and clean then really really good before you paint them. clean them with mineral spirits or paint thinner. you can buy that at the dollar store.

I just use the spray paint from wal-mart. Get all the old ---- off, lay down 2 layers, and you're good to go. This has worked with me, doesnt necessarily mean it will work for you ;D

I would just use the high temp ---- in a flat black. ;)

the autozone down here sells what they call spray on powercoat, comes in gunmetal too

Anypaint with good prep will work. To make it last spray some clear on it after you are done, they'll look like they came painted

i would use the primer myself, it will help you see any minor imperfections on your wheels. i did my valve cover with hitemp. cleaned it up with aircraft stripper, then went over the whole thing with a red scotch-brite, air dried it, primed, painted (4 coats, each applied just before the previous one was completely dry), then cleared (also 4 coats, applied just as the previous dried).
I have to say, that for a rattle can job, this turned out awesome. I think if I were to have done some wheels the same way they would have turned out just as good. anyway that's how i painted some stuff so that it would hold up, hope it helps. Ben |

i dont know if this color is dark enough for you but the color i have on my vx's is from autozone...duplicolor high performance wheel coating, its some good ass paint, doesnt chip for ----, well not yet.

I used the duplicolor bronze ---- and only used two cans and that was enough. ---- this was the best job I did so far and for prep I just took a paper towel and knocked off the lost dirt and then started spraying. The bronze looks really good and I didn't clear coat it cause I don't like the glossy look and the the ---- holds good and nothing has chipped of yet. ---- primering and all that other ----. I did that all before on the other rims I've painted and these with the less prep work turned out the best. Duplicolor gets two thumbs up from me.

i was gonna try that high performance wheel paint on mine.
but while painting always remember the important rule on how many coats to use, "once for dust twice for rust" ;). |

This is the ---- that I used. cheap and holds good for not even washing or priming the rims. Sprayed right over dirt!

it's ok travis, I still love canada and my canadian people.
my rims should be here in a week or 2, I'm going to get some heavy ass sand paper to take all the white paint off, then go over with a little bit lighter sand paper so the paint isn't all rough. then I'm going to do a couple of coats of flat black and then mount some tires and put them on. I'm going with flat black because if I went with anything else I'd be fired as a stealthmode performance representative. |

Julio, do me a favor and don't paint a good set of gsr wheels. Not even black.
Sell them to someone that wants that ---- and put some real black wheels on your car. I just feel like your taking a red type r valve cover and asking how you should paint it. :-\ |

I just feel like your taking a red type r valve cover and asking how you should paint it. :-\ BECAUSE I WANT TO!!!!! that and when i bought them i got them black, so when i hit that ---- with the airplane remover ---- it made it look dull and wack!! i dont like that ---- all dull..i like them black or some dark greyish color... but seriously if these were Type-R wheels i wouldnt be doing these...ican find these just about anywhere but do i want to spend 300-400 NO! i got these for 200 with tires and thats good enough for me..even if they were black to begin with..thanks for your concern but i think ill paint them anyway ;) |

hey puto, when are you into looks n ----. buy some sandpaper and primer and fix that bondo mountain on the back of your car. then, fix those cels you got. and save your money to get your ecu chipped. and just when your car is running good, you can paint
the rest of your car the same color! mutha fucka talkin about gunmetal spray paint. pssssssht |

juat use the same stuff you used to paint your steelies and valve cover. That'll definitely do the job and you already know it looks good ;)

the rest of your car the same color! mutha fucka talkin about gunmetal spray paint. pssssssht I went to walmart yesterday and bought some flat black paint for the 4 door...rattle can paint job this weekend..ha ha Oh and im waiting on Xenocron and i have to get to donalds to get the chips burned and ----..i guess ill run the NG48 Bin.... OH and i took off the AFC and 390's and it got rid of the CELS...so i dont know what was up with that! I even re-did the wiring with the correct colors and was able to keep you Honda plug that we incorporated for the AFC. IM gonna sell it cause im not gonna need it for TE! We are going fishing after i get off work..you should come down later.... |
