want to build a v8 turbo car
 

i am looking for a regal,malibu,cutlass maybe a mustang but i would rather stick to gm. one of those cars in 80s. i want to rebuild the engine and turbo it. any ideas on what kind of car i should get and i would like one that i could just buy a chevy short block and build it up then throw it in there. but i am having a hard time finding one of those cars for a reasonably price.

get a trans am or camaro. i got a 82 t/a and with a stock 305 it has plenty of balls. build up a 350 to a 383 and a couple snails like the garrent banks twin snail system and you be good to go.

I thought 383's had mild reliability problems (r/s related, rod bearings munched themselves over time) that boost would bring to the fore?

Personally, a mild build cheap turbo V8 with rods and cheap forgings, and the rear two bores properly toleranced is enough to get the average HMTer killed.

the 305 had shitty head casting that were thin enough to either warp or crack.

the biggest problem with that is they put it in that peice of ---- blazer and s-10

350's are always a good bet. I've seen too many supercharged-to-hell-and-back built 350's in old cars around these parts to think of.

What JD said about the 383's sounds familiar, but i'm not very familiar with those engines much.

Avoid 305's if you can.
