Wanna flat black your ride? Here is the shit you need!
So a while back i got people asking me what kinda spray paint i used and i figured i woull post this up for those of you who like teh flat black rattle can. http://www.duplicolor.com/gallery/ga...n_premium2.jpg Use the flat black laquer paint cause the enamel one isnt as pretty looking when you spray it (it leaves streaks ;). Hope that helps some of you wanting to do this. BTW if you want to do it right, i suggest you sand the car down ( the whole thing ). sand it down till you get all the clear coat off. then if i were you ( and i didnt do this ) i would spray it with a base coat or a primer. then after the promer use the laquer paint and voi-la. you will have a kick ass flat black paint job that probably only cost you no more than 40-50 bucks. Re:Wanna flat black your ride? Here is the shit you need!
wash it with dishsoap first, before sanding. dishsoap strips through the wax, if you have any wax on your car :P
-it will make things a little easier. ;) |
Re:Wanna flat black your ride? Here is the shit you need!
you can wipe it down with prep solv or rubbing alcohol

Re:Wanna flat black your ride? Here is the shit you need!
i would donate $10 to your rattling canning project of the stang if you post pictures of it
as far as tips for painting go... if you have access to a DA Sander i'd go over the whole car with it w/ like 240-320 grit to get the clear off, then hose that down, then wipe it off, and then lay down a primer do 2-3 coats of primer and then wet sand w/ 400-800 and then rattle can the flat black and you'll have a nice smooth finish. only problem i see with this though is that after you take the clear coat off, you're not going to havea nything protecting/sealin the metal, so chances are that your car will probably rust down the road. If you want to really do a hoodrich, long life flat black job, after you sand the clear off, get a real paint gun and spray a coat of sealer on there and then sand that down and do your flat black. My 4dr ef will be getting this very shortly (this spring) as soon as all the salt and ---- is off the road and i have some time to do body work(gotta get a trunk, hood, fix rust, body filler, etc) and I think im going to spray a coat of clear over this just to see how it looks. |
Re:Wanna flat black your ride? Here is the shit you need!

If anyone thinks they want a Flat color, but not black, they always have the choice of going GANGSTA' OLIVE DRAB. It looks sick on my whip, Y 0. also, your gona wana go over the car with a grease and wax remover and some steel wool to get all the wax off. then your body work etc. any bare metal you are gona wana spray paint with a good sealer. 240 on the palm sander is usually smooth enough for the final coat. (I did 80 and its way too rough, lmao)
Put your cans in a bucket of warm ass water before you spray. This heats them up and the paint comes out quicker and becomes more atomized. the label of the can should be easy to pull off at this point, remove it so it doesn't transfer any water into the paint. The first half of the can comes out real fast and will leave a nice finish, the other half will leave a more rough finish. Tape lines are your enemy. Thin coats It takes about one mildly expensive can of paint per first coat on the right side and left side. one for the roof, one for the hood, one for the front, back bumbers, and hatch. then for the second coat, it will take half as much. This is for a 89 hatch back. its better to do the car in sections, as long as you mask off the previously painted area before you move on to the next. 3 coats is minimum, 4 is ok, 5 is real good. go over the car with a blow gun first to make sure you get all the dust out of the cracks. I painted my car in my garage, and it turned out great. Do NOT wet the floor down before. http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HMTpaint.jpg http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HMTpaint3.jpg http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HMT%20paint2.jpg http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/car-can.JPG http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/hmt.JPG http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/IM001105.JPG http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/IM001036.JPG after your car is done, girls like this will wana ride wit you. ;) http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/65071icia2.jpg |

I bought it from Canadian tire, not in the auto paint part though, go to the outdoors/housing sections.
Was just 1/2 gallon cans of mat black barbeque paint for $12.99, only thing was that it had a 6 hour cure, I just left it for like 24 hours, serioulsny not one chip or scratch yet, not even where you stick in your key is scratched Gravity feed adjustable pressure and ------ paint gun was $24.99 on sale |

no, my drug addicted friend who needed drugs REAL BAD, he bought the bmw for 600 bucks, then traded the car to his 13 year old neibour for a paintball gun, and then he sold me the rims for 50 bucks.
