WA State proposed engine displacement tax

Get ready to be raped if you live in Washington state. They are proposing and engine displacement tax as well as a tax on co2 emissions per mile. With just the displacement tax alone for my two cars each year it would be $225 for the 300SD and $400 for my 63 T-bird.

If you live in Washington State contact your state reps and urge them to kill this!!!!

Don't they do emissions at idle and then 3000rpm constant load? It's still very possible to pass emissions and have an 11sec turbo car.

co2 emissions "per mile" meaning they're going to put a box in your car, and keep track of either you mileage or how much gas you buy

theres no way they are going to put a box in all the millions of cars in WA to keep track of gas mileage.

Its hype something being from california I know well to much. We have counties in california too that dont require smog but they are almost at Oregon aka no man's land

Re: WA State proposed engine displacement tax

some counties in WA require a emmissions test, but if you want to get around it all you need to do is use an address in a city that doesn't require it.

Re: WA State proposed engine displacement tax

That's VA too. East of the mountains = emissions. West of the mountains = straight exhausts and test pipes. However Virginia laws regarding vehicles are complete BS. DOT and CARB approval means nothing to VA police. It explicitly says anything not factory equipment is illegal.. including wheels. If they want to be picky they can give you a ticket for non-stock wheels. Usually it gets applied to lowering or lights or exhausts, but it's possible. Yay VA let's be a huge pain in the ass to our residents!

They want to apply California's emission standard here in Quebec. ---- California! But not the bikini....

Re: WA State proposed engine displacement tax

I see 25 year old cars (15 years old in canada)becoming more and more popular. its the only sure way to get around the emissions laws.

I wonder if they would still write a ticket for illegal exhaust on a 25 year old car...

As far as I'm concerned bikers should get a ton of benefits. Tax breaks, no vehicle tax, special lanes everywhere, etc.

What are Washington's emissions laws? Only been out here a few months and looking to pick up an EF soon as the Mustang sells and the tax return comes in.
