Looks amazing.

Might aswell just make a radial engine. They're torque phenoms.

Pratt & Whitney R-4360 "Wasp Major"

3000-4300bhp, 3,482lbs - 3,870lbs

Here's one of the centerfugal superchargers they used on it.

Nifty, but why?

You can make 560hp out of 1.6L these days...just ask hotrex. :6

Re: W9 engine (9 cylinder) engine for JD

n1ghth0nk3y, not everyone can make 560 on a 4 cyl, that's just hotrex and his mad skillz. He can also build low 10, high 9 second DSM all day long and they don't break down.

Yeah, he loves to throw that 9 second number around he pulled out of his ass. After he destroys that, I garuentee someone leaves a hyundai at his shop and he gets all "I'm going to build the fastest hyundai in teh world!!11!! ultamate sleeper, smoking everyone at the races on a 50 shot" on it. Blow it up, then say ---- cars and come back with some other random ----.

@300-400 rpm :P I like going to the airforce museum and looking at all of the old engines, especially the old jet engines

Wow. Say you got that in a car, how would you close the ------- hood with the manifold bulgeing out the top :1. Oh waite it must be a small displacement 9 cylinder making as much power as a V6. ::)

It hadnt been done before for a reason ;). Back to the drawing board!

Probably machining costs and impracticality. I like vw's "W" engine layout more, its basicly like 2 vr6'es stuck together.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt that based off an old airplane engine? http://www.daviator.com/photos/engines/DCP_0196.jpg

What isn't based off an old airplane engine design?

I like the timing chain/tensioner design. Not overly complex, but still purposeful. 8)

Re: W9 engine (9 cylinder) engine for JD

Approx. 177Hp/liter on a NA engine isn't too shabby...

A redline of 12,500 and a CR of 12.7:1 helps.

was reading the spec on the motor and one little phrase cought me off guard...

9 cylinder four-stroke engine in W formation with 3 cylinder rows.
Cylinder volume: 2977 cm³ ( 182 in³)
Bore: 90 mm
Stroke: 52 mm
Max rpm: 12500
Compression: 12,7:1
W-angle: 60°-0°-60°
Fuel: Ethanol, E85
Head layout: 4-valve, 20° included valve angle
Dimensions: LxWxH, 434x623x448mm (17,1x24,5x17,6 ")
Weight: 118 kg ( 262 lbs) complete with exhaust system
Max torque (est.): 380 Nm ( 280 lbs-ft)@ 7200 rpm (bmep: 15,7 bar ; 228 psi)
Max power (est.): 526 hp@ 10700 rpm (bmep: 14,6 bar ; 211 psi), dimensioned for Tri-Turbo 1005 hp

no ----... thats impressive ... id like to see it put in this car...

http://www.motorcities.com/media/ima..._F1_F-640.jpeg

i know they would have to do some rearend mods to get it to fit... but ----... get r done... oh and ---- the bugatti ... they say that thing is useless for turning... its just a salt flat car...

doesn't it pull almost a g on a skidpad? doesn't seem bad to me. Everytime i read someone that has reviewed it says it inspires confidence in the turns more than any car they've ever driven
