volvo tranny cooler in civic as oil cooler ?
Ok guys... I went to the junkyard and fould two nice looking coolers. Both are off of volvos. Both are also tranny coolers.
The one I thought about using has some pretty big inlets and outlets, AND its pretty damn beefy. Just wondering if you guys think it would work well on my civic with a thermostat. Here's a pic. ( or a few ). check the other pics out too if you have time, bad ass teg in that album. http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/max...&.dnm=3e3d.jpg |

I think those should work as an oil cooler. Just do a presure test, and such. This maybe a stupid question though, which is hotter Tranny fluid or oil? I bid oil, right?
|
Re:volvo tranny cooler in civic as oil cooler ?
tranny fluid gets hotter for sure.
And I never thought of it that way... |
Re:volvo tranny cooler in civic as oil cooler ?
well engine oil is heated by direct fuel ignition and friction from many bearings and such. Transmission oil tends not to be near any combustion processes and lubricates a couple of gear sets, but no fluid bearings or anything. I say engine oil gets hotter.

i would think that atuo tranny fluid would get way hotter, but im drunk

That IS the oil cooler on the Volvo.
The tranny cooler is located inside one of the end tanks of the radiator. |

Of course I could have saved myself a lot of "wonder" by just looking at the damn radiator in it to see if it had the radiator/tranny cooler together. I got a turbo off a different volvo and that volvo had a different cooler that was FOR SURE the tranny cooler ( without the turbo is was really easy to see the tranny lines).http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/max...&.dnm=bb6d.jpg Damn turbo in the way... Damn turbo with very exsesive shaft play in the way. |

Save your time. It is the oil cooler. I have spent some time with volvos at the junkyard plus my fried has a volvo 240 turbo.
http://grove.ufl.edu/~smack118/volvoaccessories.htm It should work fine for you. The Saab ones are a little smaller and will work fine as well. |

Wow man, thanx for schooling me on that one !! That is the exsact same one !!
I guess I'm gonna have to make another trip to that junkyard and buy another $5 part and take $100 worth of stuff home in my box. Last trip I got some misc. IMPORTANT bolts, O2 sensor, Si/HF Dizzy harnesses, few interoir parts, and a new TPS plug. Of course I paid for a $5 imblem off a toyota camery that said "Turbo-D" !!! Its pretty cool. |
