vitara/stock rod idea
since the vitaras are low deck height in a d16, why not get your crank lobes welded up and offset ground, or just undersize them off-center? poormans stroker kit for the most part.
seems logical, but why does noone do it? |

you can use the lower deck to stroke the motor and not play kissy kissy with the head to piston clearance |
Re: vitara/stock rod idea
I'm assuming the machine work cost would easy pass the cost of vitara slugs and aftermarket rods.

This idea defeats the whole purpose of a Vitara setup. |
Re: vitara/stock rod idea
Also stock rods can't handle the HP that H beam rods can.

Re: vitara/stock rod idea
I think he meant stock rod length.

Re: vitara/stock rod idea
you can use a d17 crank w/ 137mm h-beams w/ d16z6 head and gasket =9.10:1 found this using http://www.zealautowerks.com/dseries.html.
Using FJ's rods 138.65mm you get 10.43:1 Again that would kinda defeat the ideas of using vitara for mega boost turbo or supercharger setup. |
Re: vitara/stock rod idea
That machine work to a crank would be very expensive. Welding on the lobes would cause all sorts of problems and give many sites for crack prorogation. Also, there is a very precise radius that needs to be at the edge of the bearing surface to prevent fatigue failure. The journals are also case hardened.

Re: vitara/stock rod idea
The d17 crankshaft isnt going to help the d series motor it has enough stroke. What the d needs is work up top. manifold, throttle body, ported head, camshaft then your done.
