Re: Video Cards
I just finished my new computer
Amx 64x2 4400+ 1ghz fsb Asus A8N32-SLI motherboard Geforce 7800GTX Vid Card 2gb pc3200 ram (retail) its pretty nice, i like the startup speed with the 10k hard drive. just under 15 seconds from pushing the power button |
Re: Video Cards
^^^ you rocking a WD Raptor? Thats what I'm using, fucker is fast all around.
|
Re: Video Cards
nothings faster than my 18 gig scsi drives. 15k rpms baby!
|
Re: Video Cards
I've had two 36gb raptors in raid-0 in the main comp for a few years now. Hard drives just don't do that much unless you're big into video editing, or hosting ----.
^ Depsite their 10,000-15,000rpm spindle speeds & the associated higher numerical transfers. SCSI SUCKS MAJOR ASS for desktop computers. Their firmware is nowhere near optimized for use outside of mass server-ville. What you should take from that, is that unless you're running a server getting large amounts of completely random requests... A basic, good performance 7,200rpm desktop drive will preform FASTER than you 15,000rpm SCSI drive unless that is a server, of major video editing computer. I doubt you're surfing forums on a file server active enough to constitute SCSI. Good convorsation piece, but it means crap. |

yep, 2 in raid :-D |
Re: Video Cards
I'm into super quiet PC's so most of my hardware reflects this.
I'm rocking a 6600GT agp, 128meg @ 550/1100 o/c cooled by a Zalman VF700 @ 5v Asus P4S800E p4-478 board (passively cooled). Seagate 7200.7 160gb and WD 40gb. (both inaudible) Antec p150 case w/ Antec NeoHE 430w Antec Tri-Cool @ Low Nexus 92mm intake fan @ 5v stock p4 cooler (next on the list to be changed) NEC-3520A DVD-+RW 2x512mb ddr400 and for who ever is praising 3gb of ram you wasted your money, congrats. Benchmarks show only 1gig is needed for today's games and there is little to no benifit from having more. Heck, depending on the motherboard it could even be slowing you down requiring you to run 333 ddr speeds or 2T timing. might wanna check into that! and raptors are a waste of money too except in server environments,. Toysrme is right. |
Re: Video Cards
crxmatt you are an idiot 3 gigs ::) and you got ripped the ---- off on that card. Its a 256 6800gt which is old news. The now 154$ 6800 gs is a all around faster card than your 6800gt and the 500$ 6800 ultra. for that 300$ you could have got a 7800 gt which is at least 2 times faster than that pos card you bought :3 yet another fag who knows nothing about computers and thinks that because its expensive its good.

Re: Video Cards
^This is why I reffered to him as a newb. He has probably been HERE longer then me. Still got fucked. Almost like me spending 3k on a B18B swap. :1
|
Re: Video Cards
Or buying a full race manifold just because its expensive it has to be the best

Re: Video Cards
asus has gone way down hill they are trash now. Evga is the way to go now they build the best cards and have the best prices

Re: Video Cards
i have an asus v9700 integrated with geForce fX5700 and 256mb ramdac memory. Ive had it for a year now and it just now started acting up to where i will be inside Counterstrike and my fps will spike from 100 to around 20ish and then sit level and do this off and on. I wouldnt reccomend anything other then ati, my bros computer has a radeon 9800(non pro and same motherboard and memory setup) and it performances exceptionally even after being use for more then 2 years now.

Re: Video Cards
Evga has been getting pretty popular, and for the price its a pretty good choice for vid cards.
Im rocking an MSI 6600gt, holding up strong since Nov. and got a pretty decent stable OC out of it. |

also, it's pretty common knowledge that all 5x00 series cards from nVidia are lacking in performance anyways. Back then Ati was the ish, next generation (6x00 series from nVidia) was the best (can you say SM 3.0), now it looks like Ati has got the fastest single card. but it costs 600+. Soon you'll see dual core video cards (im pretty sure nVidia has released some already for testing purposes in SLi, meaning, Quad GPU) I agree w/ leed, the 6600gt is an awsome card, got mine a year ago for $230 CDN. (eVGA). and the whole, this company makes this card better then this one arguement doesnt really apply to video cards. all the manufactures follow a basic schematic provided by nVidia for layout and components (this is called Reference Design). Every once in a while a company changes the design, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. The weakest link on most cards are the heatsinks. Mine was over 100c (due to improper seating im sure) but i changed it anyways. 52c @ full load is good for me :)
