VHS to DVD recorder
Anyone have one of these things? I was thinking of buying one since I don't have a digital camcorder and I have lots of good VHS videos. Which is a good one to get and whats a good price?

My mom's got one, I don't recall which brand it is. It was the cheapest unit at best buy at the time and it works fine.

Re: VHS to DVD recorder
buy a TV tuner for the PC instead, that way you can capture/EDIT/CREATE a dvd of your liking.

Re: VHS to DVD recorder
Yea i have a video card for my computer that has a rf and rca adapters and a dvd burner so I just hook the vcr to the comp and record the video then burn it, I guess one of those machines would save a step...Just buy a digital camera or call me i have one and I don't use it to much so you could borrow it

I hate borrowing things, you never have it when you need it. You want to sell it to me? ;) |
Re: VHS to DVD recorder
Ahh yea, I can't believe I didn't recommend a TV tuner card first! Basically it lets you watch/record TV on your computer (You can get software to use it like Tivo to record your favorite shows without the monthly service fee ;)) And some of them also have an RCA video input which is great for hooking up VCRs camcorders, surveillance cameras, etc. Here's a link to almost the exact same one that I have:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ATI-ALL-IN-WONDE...QQcmdZViewItem get something with the ATI Theatre 550pro, you dont need an entire video card. go to www.ncix.com and look around. a good one can be had for ~80 US. + shipping. (i think that x1300 AIW comes w/ the 550pro chip, but you dont need a $400 video card) |

I have an all-in-wonder it is great I don't have any problems with it:

Re: VHS to DVD recorder
ya you can get a card that has good quality w/hd,but not a tivo-like program to support it.

Re: VHS to DVD recorder
just another option that will keep it simple(usb).
http://www.adstech.com/products/USBA...p?pid=USBAV701 i have it and used it a few times to get home movies onto my pc/dvd.i think i paid somehwhere about 80$'s for it a while back.fukin easy to use. |
Re: VHS to DVD recorder
video card w/ built in tuners are a waste of money. if u want to upgrade one, you've got to get both = stupid.
http://search.ncix.com/displayproduc...cture=SAPPHIRE or http://search.ncix.com/displayproduc...ture=HAUPPAUGE the two best standard definition tuners out there right now. the reason older ones from ATI AIW suck is they do not process the audio internally and that can lead to sync problems. the 550pro hardware encodes audio and video before sending it into the pC (the hauppauge one does too i think) |
