Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
The tops/backside of the exhaust cam's VTEC lobes are ground down:

Dam that sucks, didnt really think that it was possible.

Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
Recent reformulation of oils don't help much. The EPA had sulfur compounds removed a couple years ago, and more recently zinc. Check the current June issue of Hot Rod (I think?) for an article on cam failure from such oil, and a few oils ranked by zinc content.
But, hey, we were revving stock B16 cams to 9500. Our rationale was that hotrex wasn't man enough to, so we needed to step up and be role models. |

Huge HT thumbs up on the stock MAP, hahaha
Having your highcam 2d fuel curve look like this is strangely satisfying.... http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/710...pmayhem4dw.jpg |
Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
Fuel follows torque, then 6500 tq peak sounds about right.

Yeah the sulfur is a must-have anti-galling material for high pressure friction surfaces. Hence why gear oil has so much sulfur in it.

If your springs are too stiff, they'll wife the lobe right off the cam. I think they specially nitride coat the ones in Nascar and Rally. You might want to check it out if you're going to keep those springs.

I just wished the CRX would've been in correct order so that I could've given the pigtegra a proper race... :)

Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
Yeah, she is a heavy slut. 325-350 whp should be enough to walk her, and you've got more than that waiting in the wings.

Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
shiiiit. I havent seen that car running since '04 I think :'(

Yeah she sat on jackstands for a year while Trav-ASS toured Europe, and played with his penis.

we all know both of you get hopped up on meds and ---- each other 8)

Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
Actually, I'm hopped up on $287 in spark plugs.
Oh, btw? Here's a car that makes more than 389 whp on less than 21 psi - running a log manifold, and journal bearing turbo, no less - in something that weighs 800+ lbs less than your Integra... it's also held together a lot longer. http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle...s+Revealed.JPG |
Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
Lol.. JD that was great. I guess when the pinks meet comes up i'll definatlly show you the resistor trick. :y
|
Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
Use 304H, -H for high carbon. It is meant for higher temps than 304L. If you can't find -H, at least get regular 304 with no suffix, it is better than -L.

Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
I'm not using L i just accidently typed it :-P
I'll get you some pics tomorrow, i have to have my friend com over with the itr ecu :-P |
Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
JD, we can compair nerd packs at the pinks showdown, hahah. I think Ive got you beat.
The Beater Deluxe looks like its hanging a sag. Got a few engine blocks in the hatch? |
Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
Two 90-91 LS gearboxes, an H22 crank, the muffler that fell off, and the rear tires have slow leaks because that's all anyone will give me. Buying tires would defeat the purpose of a free car. :6

Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
You still have that tranny I gave you in the back? That was like 8 months ago...
|
Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
I have 9 90-91 LS gearboxes, Dick. Yours is sitting on a shelf.
|
Re: Valvesprings so stiff that cams wear out, and it's considered normal.
I need a copy of that hydro conversion so I can get myself a B16 tranny. :y
