v8 random-strike type question :P
My dad has an 82 Camaro, w/ the 2.8l v6 on a 4spd manual.
The engine is becoming troublesome. Anyone know if a 305 bolts to that trans? Some pics of the car so you know what im talkin about. http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg |
Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
It all bolts right up.
|
Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
post this in the right section. :P
anyways, it should bolt right up. but do a 350, ---- a 305. just my $.02 |
Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
Take that 350 and go with a 383 stroker
|
Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
ya ya.. i guess this is a 'tech' question... but it has nothing relevant to what is the 'norm' at HMT.. so I thought a broader audiance would be better.. o well.
keep the answers coming. I want multiple "it does/doesn't" |

He'll only get a 350 stock, if a 305 isnt much cheaper. he's just going to get a rebuilt motor, stock specs. |

Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
305 is like a d15b7.... they aint worth a ----
|
Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
That's dope. I'd look at how much a shop wants to charge for a rebuilt 350. You can get them from like Jeg's or Summit for like 1600 bucks. A basic 350 will be a lot of fun.
|
Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
I know for sure it bolts in. Almost all chevy engines/transmissions are compatible. You could throw in a straight 6 from the 70's or a mid 90's 350, either way the mounts and tranny should match.

dizzy, starter, 2 solonides, coil, and the choke if hes running electric and i think im missin one. (its been a few years :P) all in a days work + a case of shitty beer. :D |
Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
Yes sir, the basic 350's are lots of fun for the first little bit. I have one in my 84 camaro with a built Th400 and that has enough nuts to make the average joe smile. After a while you get used to it and want me. Thats why Im stroking her out. It ran mid 14's...Tranny was a big help

Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
Actually it just doesnt "BOLT" up, you need to swap bell housings on the trans first. It's a different bolt pattern.
You will also need to use the clutch from the 6 cylinder. |
Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
thats fine about the clutch, it's a fairly new "Heavy duty"...
Bell housing swap.. lemme guess, a same era Z28 bell housing? |
Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
Any SBC should do fine, I do believe. ;)
|
Re:v8 random-strike type question :P
if you're going to put a bigger motor in it you might as well swap a trans with it also & rear end :/
but i guess if you wanna just get a motor in it that is a little more stout do motor/trans buy a EFI 350 from a 90s truck. it would haul pretty good. those 350s are runners. you can get em for like $850 dollars with a 3 year/30k mile warrenty |
