Using CRX plates on another CRX?

Hey guys, need some advice, or rather, some opinions. Thought id post here, cause on teh crx resource they would be all goodie good, and back up the cop thats on there, saying to do teh proper thing, but i wasnt some of your guys thoughts.

Ive got a y49 crx, 89, with just liabilaty insurance. Im 18, but its still under my moms bf's insurance. Im getting another crx, 90 crx dx, celestial blue. The deeal is, i have a pretty rough driving record, got alot cleared, but theres still one crazy speeding ticket on there from last year. I dont want to give the insurance company any excuse to take a look at it, and raise my already high rates, which havent changed since i got my car when i was 16.

SOOOOooooo, i just want to put my y49 plates on this one for now, but if i were to be pulled over, what are the chances of the cop realizing its not the same crx. I would give him an excuse that its been painted, but would that be enough. I would even be willing to spray a spot under the carpet yellow, maybe to say i could pull up the carpet and prove it used to be yellow, you know, who paints under the carpet. Is this a stupid idea, i dont want to risk getting my insurance cancelled or raised. THanx.

dont do that ---- man, bad idea, what if u get in a accident, they will no its not the right crx, plug it will look kinda werid to a cop, cops will check vins if they see something that doesnt add up, BAD IDEA

Re:Using CRX plates on another CRX?

Well, I think the cop will notice since it has to match the registration. :-\ You'll get fucked pretty hard for trying to pull a stunt like that. I think you would be better off not having insurance than trying to fake it like that. Isn't that some form of insurance fraud? :-X Don't get me wrong, I'm no angel. I went 4 years without insurance. :-[

Re:Using CRX plates on another CRX?

yeah, ive never seen a cop come up and look at my vin, but i guess ive never been in a situation where he had to, always been legal. Whats weird, is my insurance hasnt changed since ive gotten all my tickets, but the only ones i havent gotten rid of was my first BS street racing charge, that went with a 39mph over speeding ticket, i was speeding. But got stuck with street racing too. Ive paid a years worth ofo insurace since then, including one just recently. I pay every 6 months. DO you think its a big deal for me to swap insurance, it should lower, seeing im going from an Si to a Dx.

Re:Using CRX plates on another CRX?

They might not have checked up on you and found your new tickets. It took them a while to find mine, but they did. It's only a matter of time. You might as well swap the insurance over and see what happens.

Seriously, Dont ------- do it!!!! Been there done that! I just did it cause I bought another crx for $200 the night I sold my EF hatch to get home. I put my Black 88 civic tag on my Black 88 crx for the drive home and to get to school the next few days and to my shop where my EK was getting its motorswap finished. First day on my way from school to the shop I get pulled over for "eyeballing" the cop as I drove by (fucked up huh, average clean cut white-boy, felt like a minority lol). I ended up having to go to court with a $280 fine +court costs. Sucked. But I payed $200 for the car, $350 for the incident ($550 total) and sold the rex for $700. So I guess it worked out. Just never drive when youre trying not to get pulled over (ie. Lic. suspended, no ins., drunk, taillight out, etc) cause you probably will.

Re:Using CRX plates on another CRX?

I put my license plate on my brother's car when I was driving his car (both civic hatchs, mine=88 his=91) because his was more expired than mine is. I lost the sticker, so I'm rolling with expired tags, I put on my brother's "hybrid" license plate frame (onto my car) to cover up the expired tag and I haven't gotten pulled over ever.

Re:Using CRX plates on another CRX?

ya theres these things called vin numbers that will ---- you over, also the color and model dont match, not a good idea. maybe if they were the same color and you transfered vins.

i have a friend with 2 rexes both red 89 and 90. he has no probs b/c both have vin pulled from the dash and are the same color/model. but diff colors thats pretty sketchy.

Re:Using CRX plates on another CRX?

its better just to drive without a plate at all. because if you get caught, you only have to deal with one ticket and not 2. trust me

cops check vin numbers... dont be dumb and go to jail over some stupid ----. even if you pull the vin from the dash, there is still the one on the door(sticker) and in the engine bay(which is stamped into the metal).

Re:Using CRX plates on another CRX?

Okay here's whats up.

I am in the business so this is no bull ----. The DMV is filled with morons. So is the courthouse. Not to mention cops. So, even if you get a ticket it doesn't guarantee that it will end up on your record. Go ahead, go to the DMV and get a free copy of your driving record. Your tickets may not have been input the way they should have. My driving record is a prime example.

However, if your tickets did land on your record, theres a good chance that your insurance company just didn't bother to re-check your driving record after you got on the insurance policy. Most companies re-run your record ever renewal (6 mos or 1 year) but it's possible some are too trusting, or just don't bother. If you swap vehicles on your policy, and they haven't checked your record in a while, they aren't going to just because you have a new car.

Plus, if you only have liability insurance, 90% of the time it won't matter if you drive a Pinto or a Supra, the rate will be the same.

Driving an uninsured car is bad news man. Insurance companies always look for whether or not they can get out of a claim. If you hit someone and they are horribly mangled, you don't want to be stuck with $50k... $100k of medical bills that your insurance company didn't want to pay. It will ruin your life financially.

Oh yeah, and to the guy who was talking about changing the VIN plate on your dashboard... I am a licenced VIN inspector. So is every police officer out there. (no I am not a cop 8) ) The guy who said there are 32 vins on a honda was pretty close, but there are vins where you would not even expect them. Hidden. plus it is pretty easy to spot an altered vin.

So just be smart guys, don't draw attention to yourselves, and INSURE AND REGISTER YOUR CARS. drive how you want, but please at least do these two things. In New Mexico over 30% of the cars on the road are uninsured :'( (poor state)

So true....so true. If you have ever been arrested twice for the same warrant you will agree. >:( I can't count how many times they have fucked something up which resulted in me getting fucked.

make more money. ;)

well, actually, it depends I guess. depending on your age (and state) I can't see how your insurance could possibly be $350 per month. I mean, if your driving record were that bad, you'd be in jail. Or maybe you need to find a new agent who wont' rip you off.

full coverage is another story but usually, liability is all that required (plus pip and uninsured motorist coverage in some states)

Dr.Boost 02-15-2004 12:34 PM

Re:Using CRX plates on another CRX?

lol, I can afford it, but ---- that. $350 a month for something that I may never use and if I ever did have to use it, I would have to fight like hell to get the botch ass insurance companies to give me what is mine. You give them money all year long and if it ever comes time to get some back they bitch and moan about it and try to find ways of ------- you over so they don't have to give you what you are entitled to. ---- that. Insurance companies are professional con artists and the shitty part is it's legal, which leads me to believe the government is invloved. >:(

lmao, you guys are worried about paying 200/mo. LMAO you have it EASY. Come up to Canada. My younger brother has 1 ticket on his record, is 20, drives a 02 focus zx3. One time in his old car (nx1600) he couldnt see a curb, ran over it and cracked the trans. Call the INS company incase the car was a write off. Turns out , 800 installed for the trans so he didnt make a claim. They still hold that against his record as an at fault accident. now thats BS.

Do what your gonna do. I hate when people ask advice and when its not what they want to hear they ask someone else like they need some insurence to make a bad decision so they can point blame when the ---- hits thfan. You know the risks and the costs. I personally wouldn't even think about ------- up my life (insurence fraud is a felony and have to report it on every job application). But do what you want and dont hit me on the road.

that's pretty normal; they do that in the states too. they use accidents as a way of determining how large a risk you are to insure. Nevermind whether or not they had to pay for it; if you have an accident, they're going to charge you more.

Jeez, i was jsut seeing how pleasable it was, and according to about 14 out of 16 posts, i shouldnt do it. SO im not, i jsut wanted to avoid the risk for a bit, but im going ahead and swapping tomarrow, figure my records not really that fucked up, and i can afford it anyways.
