Default USB OBD2 scantools

I'm looking for a USB or bluetooth OBD2 scantool for use with my laptop. Being able to log data is important, it's half for tuning half for normal diagnosis. DOes anyone have any experience with these? I'm considering an ELM327 based unit, and am concerned with issues of broad compatibility, speed, etc. Does anybody have some experience they can spit at me?

I have no love for the overpriced under featured stand alone plastic boxes you get off of tool trucks, or useless code pullers. If that's all you know about and you have to post to this thread, just post **** or a thread jack instead of that stupid ----.

I have a Tactrix 1.3U cable, it does not work with this software. OBD Scan II does a slow-ish universal scantool function with the Tactrix cable, but the cable doesn't work with this.
