Hey guys. I'm helping my buddy install a garret t3 (from a SAAB) on his car(I wanna look cool so I dont wana ---- ---- up), we are having trouble mounting the wastegate actuator. There is not enough room between the turbo and the block to fit it.

so he rigged this up...

its really ghetto as ----, hes gona change the long wire to a spring. the acuator itself is gona be strapped down and ---- so it dont fall out, but thats the only plan we have so far....

JEFF, i saw a post you made awhile back and you said you made a brackett and mounted it to the block? do you have a picture of this, or can you explain it to me, I'm in dire need of help.

Holy christ man, lol.. thats one hell of a wastegate actuator reloaction kit, hahaha. On johnnys car I just bent the bracket (that goes around the actuator). bent it so it aims toward the block, then drilled a holl to mount it to the block.

WTF? :o I might be "Captain Obvious" right now, but you do know that the actuator PUSHES and doesn't PULL so your wire thingy isn't going to do a damn thing,.....right? I don't know what the hell you're doing there. ???

the exhaust gasses actually PUSH the wastegate open.. the actuator holds it more closed.

You could do what I did. Dump the big ass saab actuator and get an IHI one. They're about 2/3 the size and are set to 8 psi, which is perfect for HMT setups.

Don't you have to worry about the movement of the engine too to have a effect on the actuator? Well I guess maybe if your mounts are really blown? :P

ROTFLMAO ;D :D :o. Oh man that is funny. I hav never seen the WG mounted on the iner fender before. You should get a prize for that one.

But seriously, just go to NAPA and get a carb return spring, run that from the WG flaper to the compressor side of the turbo to a little bracket. You can get stiffer springs to up the boost, or shorten the one you have or run two. This is reliable and doesn't take up much space.

So explain to me why it is tied to an actuator again? What is the actuator doing that a stationary bolt/nut/hole/ whatever can't do? That makes no sense.....

Why would you drive around with your wastegate shut unless you just want to blow your motor?

when you boost the actuater gets longer, therefore letting the wastegate flapper open more (which is being pushed open by exhuast gases).
