Updated Pics of the car (roll cage is done, on to interior, pics pics pics)

Alright guys here's some updated pics of the car. Today it was only roll cage fab. Tomorrow I will be finishing up the roll cage and the day after that I will be putting the interior back in. Then it gets towed back to my house for the finishing touches on the engine. On to the pics...

you might want to watch that oil return! mine had a nice bend/kink in it and wow was there smoke coming from the exhaust seals. small amounts of oil would go straight through the exhaust seals and out the downpipe but no i re-welded my oil pan to a better location and should take care of the problem. i will be done tomorrow and let you guys know if it stopped the oil leak/smoking. just keep a head up bro ;) if it smokes/leaks, you should know why!

looks good, I like it very much. what will be the use of the car? daily driver, track, something more special than that?

Answers to some questions:

hackish: This is a 1 5/8" x .134" mild steel 10pt roll cage. I was originally thinking of bending the pipe myself but it's cheaper just to buy a premade kit (at least in my area). So I bought this kit from swracecars.com. Very good site!! The cage is bent to my cars specs, they gave me all the help I needed (AND A DISCOUNT FOR NO REASON!), and the company is located in Spring City, PA. I live in Pittsburgh, PA so the shipping was sweet and an obvious choice!

Travis: I murdered your mom last night.

kyle: The car will be a daily driver during the spring and summer months this year pushing around 10-11psi. Next year though, the car will be track only (with the occasional street run :)) and will have major internal work done to the engine. I'm trying to keep the sleeper look for the most part but it's kind of hard when I pull up to someone and they see a roll cage, hear the bov, and see about 10 gauges and electronics in the car ;D hehe.

Yeah, The cops don't like it when they can't see who they're racing. hehe

Scratch that idea then.

Looks like a nice little project you have there. Did the cage fit like they said it would?

how much weight did the cage add? i was looking into one of there cages a few weeks ago and haven't made up my mind yet. how was the quality i looks like everything is pretty even in there or is that cause u made it.

specialk 01-26-2004 10:18 PM

Re:Updated Pics of the car (more pics)

VTECWITHBOOST: I'm not sure exactly how much weight it added but it wasn't a small amount. I'm bad at judging weight so I couldn't give an exact amount but I'd say easily over 100lbs. The quality was good. All the pipes that needed to be notched were notched and the bends were pretty good. I only needed to do modifications to the pipes that needed it (ex: the pillar bars, dash bar, x-brace, door bars, strut bars, roof bar, main bar... lol thats pretty much every bar haha. Actually now that I think of it the only bar I didn't have to cut to size or notch or angle was the seatbelt bar hhmm).

Anyways, onto tonights efforts...

The cage is done so the first pics are of the finished cage then I start to put the interior back in peice by peice and it sucked. OH god, I can't even imagine what the dash is gonna be like :'(.

lol oh yea it kinda does. I should put some kind of sign back there that says, "Please fasten all safety equipment and wait for operator to check restraints. Thank you and have a safe ride." that would be cool. Although I don't think anyone is really going to be in the back seat.

actually I don't have an oil filter relocator just yet. I will in the not too distant future but not yet. Maybe you're refering to the coolant lines?

is this the kit for the hatchback model? when i talked to them they didn't have a listing for a coupe, they told me they are unsure if the hatch model will fit it.

i hate to be a pain the ass asking all these questions but i the cage looks great in there and for the price i know that there is gonna be one in my car in the next few weeks.

great job so far can't wait to see it done.
