Update: fk the rice
 

Okay... it's my noob ass again. I am now not putting a single body kit peice or jdm anything etc... like i talked about before, thanks for that guys. What I am doing is the minor work the car needs to restore it's exterior to factory goodness, ie fix rust and dents. So... how easy is body work to learn from repairs to painting or does anyone know a good guy around seattle to do the work?

What I have managed to do so far on my crx 90 Si:

replaced dizzy with a new one
swapped on carbon fiber hood
fixed sunroof
swappe din oem 91 seats
replaced a bunch of interior trim pieces
swapped in crx logo door panels

goals for this year:

fix & repaint body
upgrade the suspension (stock right now

No pics cause nothing exterior has changed since my last post, so stfu and sit in the corner, or don't mention them.

PS I will post some tomorrow night :P

I fixed a lot on my rusted Civic hatch, The rust, the entire suspension, spent some dough.
Body work is kinda like an art, the more you do it, the better you get.
You can search online and learn a lot. There are many brands but they basically the principles stay the same.

BTW my car had so much rust that I had to patch the panels with some sheet metal using a POP rivet gun. It dosent look perfect but the water dosent get inside the cabin.
Ill have to replace the quarter panels and the door sills to make it look 100%, but since its daily driven Im not sure if I wanna do all that work to paint it and get all paranoid if the paint gets marred.

Pop rivets? Man, those things will rattle loose in a few months...bet money on it. Any bondo that was overtop will crack right out. Any metal work should be fully prepped and fully welded, and then filler over top.

You can easily teach yourself how to do body wrok. just work on some easy stuff first. might wanna find someone who knows their ---- to get tips from.

when i redid my rusted out quarter panels, i cut it out and made a new panel out of fiberglass. came out fairly mint. needs just a bit more glazing putty and it will be near perfect

THanks for the replies fellas. I am currently trying to find someone local to get some tips from and maybe assist a few times. In the mean time I have been doing my reading and such. This is going to be fun. ;D

My neighbor retouches cars at dealerships fora living. He said that he always hjears stories of peoples first time with bondo, they take half the can of filler and way to much hardner, and make a nice batch of useless crap. So your first time around, make sure u have plenty of materials. They also make a filler with fiber glass in it (he always refers to it as kitty hair) that works really well. YOu should use it on anything substanial that needs to be filled. This should work for filling holes and such, where bondo would crack. For example, I used it to fille the holes where my windshield fluid squirters used to be

Thanks, and I tried when I started out. Problem is that I am a complete beginner to cars and know nothing at all besides what I have read. So most of beginning posts were asking such lame beginner questions hat people flamed me and I got the impression that alot of the guys enjoy stupid and useless threads. So my bad.

And I work as a network security guy, so unless something goes wrong I'm just on the net. 8)

I Think its funny how easy it is to persuae ricers. they come on these sites talking about the body kits they want, then after a good flame they apologize like its our car. then theres a long useless thread about thenew plans for the car, like we give a ----. and they still ask stupid ass questions like how to mix Bondo, yet they have all these plans for ---- they have no background or experience with. learn to crawl b4 trying 2 run. you gotta know how to change ur own oil before talking about rertoring or tryin to build a race car

Well ---- you very much for being so welcoming to someone wanting to start a hobby in cars. In a few months you will be eating your words, I can do body work just as easily as the next guy, just takes some practice. At least now I really do see why this site has such a rep for being a big bag of assholes.

i meant in general, but ok. Body work isnt hard at all...? painting and welding require some practice, but thats the extent of it. You can stay online all day, but you wont learn ----, or be taken seriously, till you get ur hands dirty and form your own opinions.
