I have two thinkpads an old a22m that works great for tuning and a T30. The t30 is three times the lappy that the a22m is but On the old a22 my ostrich upload is instant where as the t30 takes a few seconds.

I have the 400. It's a good laptop, but you have to be willing to put up with the small screen. I paid $399. It is full featured, and comes with xp. It's not my main workhorse, but it is very portable. There is no serial port, and no cd-rom though.

does the tuning software run on linux, or could you put xp on that thing

Won't work. You will have resolution issues. You'll also need to spend another $100 for the one with XP.

---- that small screen, I have a 14" widescreen right now and I wouldn't go any smaller. Seems decent other than that

I've run eCtune on 800X480. It's feasible, but not the most functional. For a one-off tune single user tune and/or cool toy factor it's doable but not ideal. I second the T30 vouch.

I bought a linux T61 because it was cheaper than the ones bundled with Windows. Guess what? It doesn't have linux and it didn't cost me $100 to get rid of it.

I'll stick with a Thinkpad. Rocking a T20 for tuning duty. After checking them out, I'd love to have a T61, but I am also a poor college student.

I'm a poor college student, too. My T61 was only $875 to the door, you should be able to hustle that in a week and a half.
