U-Haul mileage counter ???

i need to tow my crx to PA to get tuned in a few weeks, but i have no way to get it there(i refuse to break in my new engine with a 400mile trip on a basemap). im gonna use my bosses astro van and rent a uhaul tow dolly but they want like$450 to bring it to PA but they said its only $49 in state, i was wondering if anybody knows if they use tracking or a mileage counter on tow dollies? i could imagine them having it on the trucks but what about the tow dollies?

Nothing of the sort on a dolly.

For $450, you can BUY a dolly... :'(

Re: U-Haul mileage counter ???

well.. people say they have look outs.. people that log every uhaul tow dolly or truck they see on the road and get paid for it or something like that.. dunno if its just a sccare tactic.. but it worked on me..

lol

ur best bet is to find someone local to u who has one and borrow it..

try posting an add in craigslist..
remember when u rent that dolly u give em ur liscence number and credit card i assume if they find out.. first thing theyre gonna do is rack up ur bill :8

Re: U-Haul mileage counter ???

---- all that....for one im pretty sure they dont have a counter, for 2 they would never win in court if they tried to charge you for taking it out of town. Ive used them at least 15 times and gone very far and never once had a problem, nor have they had mileage counters, they are usually busted ass trailers that barely have lights lol...think about it, they give you two options, local or one way....one way you take it from store A and leave it at store B.....local you take it from store A and return it to store A....they cant controll what you do with it....just play dumb and say local ;D

Re: U-Haul mileage counter ???

some of them do and some of them don`t.
It will be either on the trailer itself or on the center hub of the wheel

Re: U-Haul mileage counter ???

i'll be on the safe side. im gonna bring it in the shop and take it apart and see if theres any wheel odometers or tracking. they do look busted up and rikity, i wouldn't waist money to monitor a tow dolly, its not like its got a motor that can be abuses or is no go with so many miles

did you try to get a quote from BUDGET rent-a-car, they have pretty good rate sometimes.

I think you are all missing the mark here.

If it is really "In-State" then the mileage doesn't matter. The only thing that would matter is a GPS beacon. Otherwise you could have just drove around a lot in-state.

I am assuming that you live in OH, NY, MD, or something bordering PA.

Otherwise just borrow one from someone on Craigslist.com

What part of PA are you going to, I'm guessing JK? If so, when? My cousin and I are going to go out at some point to get his Accord tuned...

I help a guy wholesale cars and for $200 you can have it shipped. We have bought cars in New York and sent them to South Caolina for $100. Call a auto auction near you and ask for the number for a auto transport company.

do what i would, do just flat out ask them if they have a counter. If they say they do, tell them you want to return the dolly to a DIFFERENT location from where you originally rent it. Like a city over. Just say that it would be more convienent for you to drop it off at the other location. You could also negotiate with them, I was gonna rent the full dolly at the front wheel dolly price, so it woulda been like 25 bucks. I didn't end up renting it because the deal on the car fell through.

Oh and number one rule if you are gonna dolly your car DO NOT PUT A CAR COVER ON IT. If you like your fresh paint job don't do it.

seriously, EVEN IF it has a damn counter that does not prove you took it out of state! just say you used it alot.

Or you could go buy those 3M car cover tape stuff.
