Are turbos universal for any import?

Default Are turbos universal for any import?
My friend has a 1988 nissan turbo and wants too see if he can put it on his Mitsubishi eclipse 1996. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You're gonna have to find an import specific turbo. I found this out when I tried to put an eclipse turbo on my 68 el camino and it threw the cel #36 (import turbo verification)

Just make sure you don't get a turbo from a Ford or a Volvo. It has to be Japanese to match. You see, turbos are like blood types. If it is no the right type, the car will reject it.

Its against the law in most states to turbo Mitsubishis, toyotas, fords, and renaults. Check your local statues.
