Turbo T100???

Ok first of all I'm not about to tackle this but I am considering it in the future. I think a turbo T-100 pickup would be an awesome unique truck.

Aside from Megasquirt, what else would be my tuning options? The engine in question is a 5VZ-FE. Year is 96 so it is OBD-II. The truck is also a 5 spd. ---- an FMU, I don't really know a whole lot about stock Toyota computers.

For spool up I would want boost to come on at around 2000-2500, not much later. I usually shift by 2500-3000 anyways. The engine produces good torque and I'd like to use a turbo to improve it's torquey characteristics, but I don't want instant spool. I still want to be able to cruise out of boost. For a turbo I was thinking either a T3/T4 of some kind or maybe a Holset with the smaller exhaust housing. The MR2 with the 5vz used a CT26 and it seemed to have good spool up characteristics.

Theres boatloads of room in the T-100 engine bay, unlike the tacoma. Space will only be an issue for a FMIC, which doesn't have much in the bumper area. Time to cut ----.

Since I probably won't upgrade the engine and will be rocking a stock block, I will go with a conservative HP number of atleast 250. Stock specs are 190HP, 220TQ.

Toysrme chime in on this one. You're the v6 toyota expert.

sucks for you man, 97+ you could slap a small turbo on it and the computer would compensate up to about 7-8psi of airflow, but the 96 doesnt have the extra fuel maps.

The 97+ 5vz-fe have fuel maps already in them for the TRD supercharger and since its a MAF based it would be great for a small turbo setup.

I'm not try hard to "be different". I bought it for my daily driver, and I think it would be cool to turbo it. What's so bad about that -------?

It's a ------- solid made truck that didn't sell well because it wasn't offered with a v8. That and it was overpriced because of the 25% Tariff at the time. Basically an "older tundra". Made in Japan not the states. Many Toyota guys will argue that the T-100 had better build quality than the US made tundras.

Actually it's basically a full-size. In the long bed model, you can fit a 4'x8' sheet of plywood in and close the tailgate, which usually something you can only do with a fullsize pickup.

Interesting. I'll have to look into that. I know toyota ECU's don't swap well from year to year, but maybe I can hook an 97-98 ECU up from a Tacoma or something.
