Re:Turbo in the rear of the car

Whats wrong with it? other than looking really goofy in the rear of the car like that, I'm sure he has a pump of some sort that pumps the oil back into the valve cover. Odd setup, never seen one on a honda like that.

Re:Turbo in the rear of the car

I htink that I would have had a separate resivor (sp) and pump in the back of the car. you could keep it real cool and not have to worry about taking it back to the engine. That would be real simple. But alot of money on mandrel bends back to the intake. It might cost let but you would be sorry about the gains.

would it matter if it was that far away from the block ? would it take longer to spool ?

Re:Turbo in the rear of the car

would you even have any boost to the engine? look how tiny thoes charge pipes are. stay away from ANY water with that

SkunT 06-06-2004 08:42 PM

Re:Turbo in the rear of the car

yeah i didn't even think about what would happen if you hit a water hole. it would take forever to get that turbo to spool. i just can't figure out why anyone would do this! WTF?

damn, you'd go over a speed bump and rip the fucker right
off the car.. thatd suck. :)

defintiley different
he says he ran a 15.3 :(
seems like a waste but i'd give him 200 for it
( i could probably get that for the turbo alone reselling it ;D)

i think its cool, but definately not done right at all, way to low to the ground, and no where near theft proof.

Re:Turbo in the rear of the car

he shouldve put the turbo in the car and setup the bov so its points at the driver. and when he needs to get rid of his stash, he could just throw it in the turbo, ;)lol, that would kick ass.

I think the conclusion to this is, its different yes, but why????

What a frickin idiot!

Someone needs to PM him on ebay and ask him how he did it, or create a UN on HMT and put a write up on it so we can all flame him :)

I'll do that now, since I am the highest bidder :P

This guy's pretty shady.. I asked him about the setup, he said:

" Sorry, it's proprietary, it's something my company does so I can't share that info. But if you get the car you'll see how it all goes together.
thanks!
joe "

In other words, he doesnt know :P

Re:Turbo in the rear of the car

it's unconventional, but not stupid, nevermind the added spool time, but just think of the benifits,

pros:

-you don't have to touch your motor, just leave it stock and add charge pipes
-engine bay doesn't get hot, neither does the turbo
-lower intake temps.
-you don't need to run coolant lines
-no messy/dangerous oil lines to run to the motor, all you have to do is use a little pump and a resevoir.
-ultimate sleeper effect.
-basicly a bolt on, just make an adapter to weld to your exhaust.

Cons:
-if you use mandrel bends, it might cost you alot,(well you'd probly end up using roughly the same amount of bends on a front mounter turbo with a intercooler)
-water could get in the turbo(but thats the same with a front mounted one, you could improve on his design by placing the air filter up higher)
-longer spool times, althoug it can't be that bad.
-you have to make a oil pump system(i don't know if thats a con, but it might be)

if you ask me, it would be easier and cheaper to make a adapter to mount that baby on your sotck exhaust right behing the rear wheels, then use a whole bunch of home vacume house for charge pipes, and a small pump witha resvoir for oil. you could make kits that complete idiots could install in seconds, with out removing anything on the car.

Re:Turbo in the rear of the car

I have seen this done before and it DOES NOT WORK! With the turbo at the rear the exhaust gases have cooled and slowed to the point that the turbo makes no boost. It spins and makes noise but thats it. Think about all the factory turbo cars and diesel trucks, they all have the turbo right up on the engine. Its there for a reason, thats where the exhaust gases are the hottest and are moving the fastest. You need that to spool the turbo. In short, dont waste your time on this you wont like it.

I think it could be set-up to run, pretty decent and someone probably made the kit when they were drunk or something like that. It just doesnt seem all that normal. ??? that camaro is pretty awsome. It would be something totally different. I wouldnt personally do it, but hey, more power to them.

HondaTuner 06-08-2004 09:47 AM

Re:Turbo in the rear of the car

Seriously.. personally, if you're going to do that, move it farther up the exhaust. I think it would spool much faster than where its located now.

WhiteTeg24 06-08-2004 11:15 AM

Re:Turbo in the rear of the car

Wow! That's a retarded idea. Customcoach is right. You need hot expanding exhaust to spool a turbo to actually create boost. It may work slightly at high rpms but is extremely inefficient. Not to mention a hazard hanging under there. Who's idea was that? That's just a demolished turbo waiting to happen. Different? Yes. Worthwhile? No.

Just imagine how much longer the charge pipes would have to be in order to make it to an intercooler than to the throttle body. Its a shitload more piping than what is necessary. Its not an efficient setup, the oil temps are probably through the roof, and like he said that he was only running 4psi thats probably becuase thats all it can spool after the pressure drop of trying to fill miles of piping.

terdbird 06-08-2004 02:49 PM

Re:Turbo in the rear of the car

what if you made your exhaust piping smaller, like 1 3/4? im not trying to justify this garbage by any means, just wondering how it could be plausible.

You would loose lots of exhaust velocity
