turbo go cart

ok so im geting 1200$ yarf-dog go cart for 75$ and i want to turbo charge. it i can get a tiny oil cooled turbo. but i need to know how to supliy the oil to the turbo it self. i was looking at oil pumps. and it looks to me that even if i ran a chain to one of them it wouldnt work. do they make an external oil pump ? do you guys have any other ides or any way you know this wont work? it has a 12hp B/S engine

im pretty sure the motor has some type of oil pump. but there is no way for you to get oil from the system. unless you find a place where there is pressure and drill and tap eithe rthe head or the block

Re: turbo go cart

---- the 12hp B&S, strip the motor, go to the junkyard, pull a turbo rotary, the spray it and slap it on there.

Its going to be more hassle than its worth. The oiling system is the hardest part of my turbo 2-stroke project and I've built an entire EFI system for the thing from scratch starting with a pile of resistors and capacitors. Good luck :-\

Your better off getting a dirtbike motor for it or something along those lines

thats what im thinking after 4 hours of searching and reading

im going to put a snowmobile engine on it i can get a whole snowmobile for 100$ need new belt so im just going to strip it down and start planing thanks for the help

Re: turbo go cart

i got an 80cc 2stroke dirtbike engine im gonna use, im sure it has more then enough kick to have a lil fun. ive been researching all different ways. i was gonna run an xternal oil tank/pan then set a pump to push oil up to the turbo then let it drain back down to the tank/pan. but i dunno what to use for fuel/spark... so i gave up haha. everyone says if it was a 4stroke it'd be easier... ill stick to NA til whitey perfects his 2stroke turbo...

it'll be tough to imitate ;)

Thats crazy whitey. But wouldn't a turbo 2 stroke just blow more fuel out into the exhaust? or could the back pressure from the exhaust wave keep it in?

no. FI and 2-strokes go very good together and make lots of power

Re: turbo go cart

tough or impossible? can you make like a sorta detailed write up on what u did for a 2stroke to take FI?

Re: turbo go cart

what snow mobile motor are you using.. 800-900 cc 2stroke motor on a gokart is going to tare some ass bad thing about snow mobile engines would be creating a drive train. with a dirt bike motor or a motorcycle engine making a shift linkage would be easy and the chain gear is alredy on the transmission. i only work on polaris and ski doo snow mobiles but they both use belt drive systems

If it was impossible than I wouldn't be able to do it ;) Its not that hard just alot of things you need to build yourself, like the ECU, wiring harness, fuel rail, throttle body mounts, intake pleum, exhaust, oil lines, and oiling system.

You also don't need to do all this, you can use a carb but I wanted my bike to be as reliable as NA. Also for my oiling system I'm using a custom modified RZ350 sidecover with an oil injection gear so the way I'm doing it would only apply to Banshee's.

You can do anything, its just how much time and effort do you want to put into it. My turbo banshee has been a dream of mine for a long time so I was willing to put in the time and effort. I mean I've been talking about this project ever since I joined HMT. I'm just glad things are starting to come together.

Keep up the work on that turbo banshee, I can't wait to see some videos when that's ready.

If I had too much time on my hands it would be done by now ;)

I'm going to try and get it to start tonight if possible. I finally found the pipe I want at a good price so I'm one step closer to getting it done. The oiling system is still really worrying me.

Re: turbo go cart

no more go cart for me i got it home and a guy offerd me 300$ for it when i was taking it off the truck lol i just paid 75$ for it so i wasnt going to turn it down the snowmobile engine didnt run when i went to go pick it up i was kinda pissid but o well i made a profit now i regreat selling it for only 300$ thing was a beast like a lil mini dunbuggy

Re: turbo go cart

well if you were'nt going to sell it, me and some buddys were going to turbo a freind race cart, for the oiling system we went to menards and bought a seprate pump for sprinklers or something like that, it ran off of a drill, I was thinking of having a seprate electric motor for it with its own battery system, make sure to have a voltage gauge. We never did it cause race cart engines are exspensive things to blow up and they have high compression.

redteg94 09-15-2005 05:47 PM

Re: turbo go cart

yes they are expensive, i was goin to turbo a pcr 100cc motor (racing go kart) and when i found out how high the compression was i said aint no way im goin to blow this thing up. i think the motor was around $1200 when we bought it for racing
