Turbo fan: has anyone tried this?

Ok well I was out in my garage working on my car and I noticed that in my old parts I had two complete AC systems, including fans. So I popped a fan off of the finned portion and tried a test fit just the fan and sure enough it fits perfectly in front of the turbo with about 2-3 inches of clearance.

So I'm wondering has anyone put the fan back in, minus the cooling core, and flipped it around on a toggle switch? I'm thinking this will help a LOT in traffic/idling seeing as I now have a huge ram horn mani under the hood.

should work..... it would be just like a puller fan to help cooling thru the radiator

why not just run a tube in front of the trubo from the fender well or the front bumper ? it would be easyer !

Does anyone know how these fans work best? I'm wondering if its better to pull air into the turbo or push it into the turbo? Not sure what would be the best configuration.

Different fans are specific on if they "pull" or "push" the air. Soo i guess it depends on which those fans are set up for... ::)

setup an hmt cowl induction hood where you put washers at the rear of the hood at the hinges to create a .5-1" gap for the air to come thru... thats alot more air movement and you should run cooler

i think his problem is overheating at idle. the washer/ HMT induction hood would do know good at idle.

My problem isn't overheating at idle or overheating at all... But with huge ass ram horns coming off the block, I'm afraid by the end of the summer I'm going to burn a hole through my hood.

I want to set this up so that along with some heat wrap and a heat shield, the fan will add even more temperature drop...

So, the question, does anyone know how exactly the fan I'm using works, and what will be the best set up?

you do not want to cool off the ram horn or the turbo

heat is what you want to keep the velocity of the exhaust pulses going fast.

by cooling it down, your exhaust will slow down

i would suggest getting some header wrap and wrapping your ram horn and then do the heat shield for your turbo and then wrap header wrap on your downpipe.

that will keep the underhood temps cooler and will keep the turbo and exhaust pipes hot

so you have a win win situation.
