trying to paint civic

im gonna paint my 2dr 95 civic.... how much paint do i need? 1 gallon? or more

Re: trying to paint civic

What type of paint are you using? Normally one gallon will do. You figure you'll end up reducing it to maybe just less than 2 gallons but it's better to have more paint than not enough and run out during your spray job.

Re: trying to paint civic

How many coats are you doing? I would go with 2 to be on the safe side. Like tranceminister said, you want to avoid having to go buy paint in the middle of your spray at all costs.

Re: trying to paint civic

im getting this enamel paint ---- from this ---- online and it comes w/ 1 gallon of paint and pint of reducer and a pint of thinner or something like that.....i plan to just prime it, 1 time coat it, and than clear coat it....so a 2 stage paint job i guess you can say

Re: trying to paint civic

1 gallon would be more than enough. I used one gallon of single stage paint to paint a 4 door accord and a 240 ;)

Re: trying to paint civic

lol, 2 gallons?

You would probably be able to get away with 2 QUARTS! I bought a gallon and had plenty left. Remember, you're not just spraying straight paint, its gonna thinned down quite a bit before it goes in the gun.

Re: trying to paint civic

right on...yea i didnt figure it could take more than a gallon at the most....does anybody know anthing about acrylic paint and enamel paint?....and what the differences are? its gonna be just jet black so i dont think it will matter

USUALLY enamel is an oil based paint, and acrylic is a water clean-up. Urethane is my favorite.

using enamel would be fine right?

Re: trying to paint civic

Shitty paint = more than 1 gallon

Good paint = maybe 3/4 gallon

I would use Acrylic Urethane, its thicker and old school, you dont need Base/Clear if youre not going metallic.

you wouidlnt classify enamel paint as shitty though right?

When my EF got painted it took 3/4 a gallon. That's with 2 coats. Paint ran me about $450 (just paint, not primer and clear).

there are different kinds of single stage enamel paints used for automotive purposes - mainly acrylic enamel and urethane enamel
urethane will hold up alot better, also if your going to clear coat it after the urethane will be much friendlier

with paint like most things you get what you pay for , with most paint lines like sherwin williams, dupont, martin senior
they have a cheaper line and a better line of paint

Re: trying to paint civic

I would get 1 gallon if you're doing a primary color. But if it's going to be a custom color I would get 2.

Just to be safe.

Used maybe 2/3 of a gallon. Multiple coats, shitty paint (single stage). Did this MYSELF- not a friend of a friend of my mom's.

Just remember prep is everything. Spend some money on a good primer.

when i had my car painted i had to just buy materials and he sprayed it for free. i ended up getting 1 gal paint and a gallon of clear and whatever reducer and hardener he told me to get. had plenty left over.

Wow. Those are really good paint jobs. What kind/type of sprayer did you use?
