If you have a na engine is it true you run best at stoich? in the middle of the air fuel guage. orange.

why do dirt bike guys and sled guys tune all the way lean until they ping? does this have something to do with the 2 stroke system? |

Hmmm...setting my dirt bike to run lean it makes more power, but I have it set a tad rich. The pistons/rings last a lot longer that way. I would rather be a bit slower than cook my engine. I would imagine a 4 stroke motor would be the same under these conditions. I don't ride 4 stroke bikes. :P

yes. running lean makes more power. 2 stroke less likely to detonate because of oil in the gas?

Dunno? I have never worried about my bike detonating. That's weird. I think I have heard 4 stroke bikes pinging and detonate. I wonder what would happen if I poured a couple quarts of Golden Spectra in my car and cranked the boost up to 15 psi? :o

Lean/Stoich.. but it doesnt matter, those AF gauges blow ass and are not showing you a true reading of your AF ratio. You need to put it on a wideband. But Johnny is correct, slightly leaner will make a bit more power. When we dyno, I start to pull fuel out on the top end of my fuel maps.
