honestly the best way for me to get good pics is this:

take as many as you can....fill that mem card up!

sort thru them once its full, you're bound to get some good ones.

I did this at a UROC event for Trailready.com, most of his new catalog is now made up of pictures I took.

photography is one of my biggest hobbies. the key is to take a ---- load of pictures on different of the same ------ thing...then pick out the pic you want.
i would say fill a card...I have a 1gig card. lol.

but take alot of pictures. ohh yeah. and a tripod makes the world of a difference. i didnt think so, until I got one. now I wonder why i never used one in the first place.

Personally for planned shoots, like that of a car, my mind is on angles and how I want the object(s) to be proportioned, where do you want the focal point to be, how should the viewer's eye move across the photo..... stuff like that. Taking a lot of photos also helps when you just have no clue what you want. :P When you are looking through the selection, take a second to critique each one, notice all the small things about it that makes it work for you, or not. Helpful to develop an eye for the right shot, almost every time.

For animated shoots, a concert for example, my mind is still on angles and flow of movement. Luckily, the bands I am contracted to do photos for have great stage presence. When someone provides you with such good basis for a photo, your options are far greater. If you ever get into taking photos like this, learn your subject so you can work with them even though you can't interact to tell them what to do.

This is only from personal experience though, but I do have a profitable photography business so maybe it is somewhat credible ;)

There are a couple DIY photoshoot articles in "Hot Rod" and "classic car" magazines. Just do like the pros do, take a ton of pictures and then sort it out later. Don't try to take 5 pics perfectly the first time. This is especially easy with digitals.
