tranny prob on 1990 laser turbo can anyone help me?

yeah i was driving home today and i went to get on it i was in 1st i went to bang 2nd and it was like i missed sounded crazy but i lost 1 and 2 gear and when i got home i still had 3rd and 4th gear, but when i got home i looked at the linkage cables that connect to the tranny the one linkage was popped off the cotter pin flew out or broke, but the problem is now that the tranny makes a horrible noise when the clutch isnt in gauged and if the cars in neutral and you revv it up the tranny makes a noise what can this be? i have another tranny if this ones fucked and the car also has act 2100 clutch if that means anythign and the car is a 90 laser turbo fwd

There was a recall on the trans on those. Call the dealer and see if it has been done. You may get a free trans out of it. Age and miles dont matter of recalls by the way.

Maybe all the times you "banged" second. There not the most reliable cars to begin with. Did you put the linkage back on the shaft and replace the cotter pin? Does it make the sound in 3rd or 4th? What does it sound like with the clutch disengaged? More of a bearing sound or ---- just rattling around. Need to be a little bit more specific with a Dsm man. I would tear it down anyways.

Read up and learn....

EDIT:
Also read up on http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/
The recall states Automatic Transmission, but read further, its actually a problem with the t-case... ;D

in dms's you never bang gears, jesus its not a honda the first time i watch my friend "bang" the gears in his dsm he did nothing but round a few more theeth off, and his 93 gsx also did this but lost 3rd and 4th gear.

Wow, just wow ::)

1. ) Alright first off there was absolutely no recall on the DSM transmissions. It was on the TRANSFER CASES. Which a goddamn 90 Laser wouldn't have since they were not made AWD untill 92.

2.) You didn't really say if you reconnected the damn linkage

3.) If the noise is stopping when you push the clutch in that would point to your flywheel either having some bolts backed off of it probably.

4.) Cars don't build boost in neutral unless you have some sort of stutterbox/2step.

5.) after re-reading and seeing it has a act2100 I'd definetly venture to guess that it is the flywheel bolts backing off and hitting the disk.
