Trance also went to the track yesterday

Yep, I went to rep. HMT and had alot of compliments on the setup etc. I was also very surprised at how my HMT setup did on the 1/4 mi. too. This was my first time EVER at the track and I'm happy with the results. Though it won't stop here, this just gives me room to improve >:D. This was at the Import wars at New England dragway if anyone attended.

First run was against a supercharged 350Z, just barely beat him.
R/T: Him- 1.102 Me- 1.194
60': Him- 2.356 Me- 2.229
1/4 mi.: Him- 13.663 Me- 13.648
MPH: Him- 106.93 Me- 105.94

Second run was against a Neon SRT4. I remember passing him about 1/2-3/4 down the track.
R/T: Him- .846 Me- 1.220
60': Him- 2.292 Me- 2.207
1/4 mi.: Him- 14.070 Me- 13.606
MPH:Him- 100.51 Me- 106.07

I only made 2 runs for the day because I had no helmet and the car did better than I expected (anything quicker than a 13.99 here you need a helmet). But, these runs were done on my stock Integra LS (B18b) at 10 lbs. Tires were BFG drag radials and I think my pressure was too high because I get alot of wheelspin still. I need to work on my launches, traction, and 60' a bit more, but all in all I am happy with the first ever runs I've made. Thanks alot HMT I will continue to rep the site and put some more smackdown at the track ;)

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

Not bad and I'm just kinda asking, but on drag radials you should be around 2 flat 60 foot times, right? 13.6 isn't bad, but on drag radials shouldn't you dip a little more? Just asking. I don't know respectable times for your set-up. Please inform me.

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

Don't know, I've never raced on them before. But, tire pressure was set to 20psi in both tires. Setup is:
Stock B18b
Ported IM and throttlebody
2-1/2" charge pipes
HKS SSQV bov
JRC 6" FMIC
T3/T4e .57trim turbo pushing 10lbs.
Neukin manifold
3" mandrel downpipe with full 3"mandrel exhaust straight back to an Apexi N1 turbo can.
450cc DSM's
Street tuned on Uberdata (have yet to make some passes on the dyno)

I was also launching maybe a bit too high at 4500 RPM. I'm sure this will take alot of practice to get down and get the car setup. I think my wheelspin killed me. Are you supposed to do a burnout in the water on drag radials? ???

samson 08-07-2005 07:21 AM

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

LOL. The blind leading the blind here. LOL. I always thought you burnout with anything really, street, slicks, Mom's winter tires. I bet that BOV sounds good, kinda reminds me of Megaman the video game when I here it on a video. Got any pics of this set-up? Is it in your 94-01 teg or a swap? When I lauched my car it's usually only at 3000 on streets, but again that was n/a (which really doesn't matter since I build boost late into 1st) and was on the streets not the track. I got some small spin and slippage then picks up and goes. Just seems perfect wheelspin, but when I fully grab it is kinda low in the rpm and takes time to get up. I don't know that was n/a, so maybe boost just makes everything slow. I have to put this clutch and run. Good job then man and just practice for the best. Low 13s, in my mind, is very plausible for your set-up. I think you should hit those numbers you ran the other night on streets when you get the hang of it. Good luck man!

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

Yup, this was in my 00 Heavy assed Integra. I do have the rear section stripped because of an added rollbar but I still had the 2 front seats and everything else. Also had some 17's on the rears when I made these runs. I may slap some 15's on next time to see if it cuts down some weight. Only reason traction was an issue was because first sucks, it just spins all the way through, and second rips up in the top of the gear when the turbo builds full boost, and the rest of the gears are the power grabbers. I just need to stop the wheelspin down low. Maybe a good set of traction bars will stop some wheelhop and keep the tires planted.

Good times Steve. Traction bars help a lot.

you burnout on drag radials. ;) that should help your times a bit

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

Yeah, I was just doing some research for next time I go. I was burning them out but I don't think I heated them up enough. Also, 20psi in the tires is alot from what I've been reading. Most people will start them at 15psi and go from there. Ah well, it's alway's a learning thing :)

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

:-\ Hmmm, I just fixed a boosting problem I had noticed on the way home from the track last night. I had a split in the reducer off the turbo and it was only allowing me to boost 6-7lbs. So, these runs may have been 7lb. runs :'( I'm not sure because I wasn't watching the boost guage on the track but on the way home I noticed it wasn't reading 10-11...
She is now though. Next time, next time >:D

samson 08-07-2005 04:42 PM

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

Sweeeeeeeeeet. All the better at only 7psi. Now you know more and got 3 more lbs to play with. I never knew how much our cars suck at traction until today. I'm still on my stock clutch so the WG is at 4-6psi. Anyway, I would out 1st a little bit at 3/4 throttle then all of a sudden the wheel got really light in my hand and the car wanted to go everywhere. I was like "WTF?!?! At this low of boost and only at Hotrex throttle?!?!" Oh well, I guess when I get the 6-puck clutch and bump back up to 10psi then take my runs at the track you'll read this in my "Went to the track" thread. "Well, I managed 15.23 for my best time holding down 2.8sec 60 footers" LOL. Oh well, I guess it takes time to learn how to drive these things. Am I right?

Good ---- trance. You can for sure cut at least a second off your time with some traction improvement. Polyurethane motor mounts are your friend too ;)

Dammit I want your setup in my car

Bah you guy's havn't even seen pictures of it. The charge pipes aren't too pretty. I think I painted them with some regular house paint or something. haha it's just flaking off :'( But yeah I'll definately look into poly mounts jago. I'm still on the stockers and they sure seem to flex alot.

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

I'm running an ls with a T25 @10psi and pulled 13.6 @100 mph with worn 225 proxies and still had a hard time getting traction. my best 60 foot was 1.88. I too was running 20psi. To much I guess.

thats definitely causing your wheelhop issues most likely.

I put in some energy inserts and after some break-in with them they virtually eliminated my wheelhop

tho i still think i want to ge the three jimfab mounts.

Definately appreciate the advice and help. I have a few more months before I go back to the track so I will certainly take these things into consideration for next time.

oh ---- very nice steve !!! wow if it only at 7 psi and it ran a 13.6 with 11 psi with some slick u should be in the high 12 ? too bad the hatch is gone or i would bring it ....

was your car in primer? i know i seen it at the track very nice

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

4500 definitely isn't too low of a launch. My launch control is set at 4200 and the car bogs badly off the line with street tires! I plan on putting mine to at least 5K the next time I tune it.

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

Awesome Trance' very nice times... yeah, a guy local to me runs his slicks on the front of his Mirage at 10psi and they look like ther're gonna BLOW on him. But his slicks are made for that...? Not sure what kind they are though sorry. I'd run 15psi if I were you.. In the burnout pit light em till "they" pull you out of the pit. Then they are gonna stick best by the time you pull up and stage. Keep us posted.. those are some Amazing times for just a LS turbo. And don't forget to post us some pics. :-*

tranceminister 08-08-2005 03:47 PM

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

Yeah I thought 4500 was a pretty respectable launch RPM as well. I'll bet the wheelhop and over inflation was what got me. I'll lower the pressure next time and heat them up a bit more and see what that yields me. 10psi yeah that was my Primer Integra :D I made only a couple runs because I had no helmet. I'm very surprised they didn't warn me. Thanks for the info shanerv, I will certainly try those tecniques out next time. It was something I've never tried before and I think I'm hooked :o I can't wait to get back there to run some more.

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

that's awesome trance', I'm glad to see your hooked :D. I Love going to the track, once i get on the road coming up to the track and i hear the cars, and smell the mix of tire rubber and race gas, my adrenaline get goin and I feel like I'm home again. let me know how it works out for you next time

Well man no, I ended up selling that manifold and TB because of a change in plans but I do have a stock ported manifold and bored TB.

Re: Trance also went to the track yesterday

I'm seriously pumped and want to go back :D I have a little time to do some mods that will help me get traction and a little more speed, but i'll definately post the results next time I run.
