tips for the track
im about to go to import wars next sunday, and i will be racing my 1990 civic si down the track for mine and the car's first time. I will be running simply n/a a6 with intake and muffler. I would just like to know some general tips when going to the track.
How much psi should i have in my tires? Should i launch at redline? Should I shift at redline? (6000) Whate the general 1/4 mile time for a n/a a6 ef? Helps would be great. Thanks. |
Re: tips for the track
If you have an n/a A6, don't race. You're only holding up the fast cars from running. :D

Re: tips for the track
go practice before the next race. that is the best you can do to get ready. we can tell you many many things you can do, but in general the best thing to do is simple practice.
btw here is one good tip "drive it like you stole it, not like you own it" |
Re: tips for the track

Re: tips for the track
25 psi in the fronts, 50 psi in the rears, drive around the water box.......
Launch at 3000 and slip the clutch to avoid major wheelspin, but the still should howl. Shift at 6800 on stock tach. 15.7 depending on driver and track elevation. |

I have before and bogged on all-seasons. I just think 3K is a bit low and when lowering tire pressure, burning out, and racing on a sticky surface I don't think 3K will cut it. You'll get more than 1 run in though so jump around. HOWEVER, the 3K with slip I might try to avoid straight spinning at the line. It seems as though it may work well, but I have a late spooling turbo so who knows. The launch advice I gave is just expierence and what not that I have had. N/A I used to launch at 3500. Try a few spots. Remember though slipping 3K and dumping 3K are two TOTALLY different styles and outcomes. ;) ;D Good luck and post back with results. :y JP |
Re: tips for the track
I would say a 16.7 . And for the tire pressure, it all depends on the track really. If it is a well maintained race track and alot of rubber, you will not have to run your tires near as low as you would if the track sucked. And leave in between the second and third yellow.

Re: tips for the track
i should be there to. the track has shitty prep so lower you tire pressure. i launched at about 5.5k at our track here but they have really good prep. i would go practice like for the 3 nites before if our car can take it. im practice some this week. that is wat i wish i would have done the lst 3 times at teh track practice before i went so i could have everything down. i should see you there shithatch

Re: tips for the track
stock a6s can hit 15 second 1/4 miles times?? Thats realitivly quick for a little 108 hp engine.
|
Re: tips for the track
you shouldn't try and "race" a car that slow
|
Re: tips for the track
im not really gonna race it. I just wanna see what kind of times i can get. And why shouldnt i "race it" The engines are dirt cheap?
