Time for the winter beater...final pics of the fire, and some beater pics

Well guys I took these pics about a week ago, when the last rain was going on...now we have snow instead. Its certainly time to go from my turbo car to my slow winter beater :(

Anyways here are the last pics before I take the insurance off for the winter... Yess I know its filthy.

You can see here I'm sportin my HMT sticker

and...now for the winter beater:

The 1988 Jeep Commanche

I paid $125 for this one. Then bought wagon wheels for it and put my old bf goodrich all terrain TA's (30x9 1/2)

I still have to put my new rear shocks on her and do some more wiring...then she's good to go.

oh yeah see that hmt tailgate handle. I zip tied the two rods to the hole for the handle so they dont fall down. Now i just squeeze them to open it :P

Sorry if none of you wanted to see this stuff, but I know you all love pictures :p

Damn, that's a pretty good deal for any car that runs. You just can't beat that.

This is the best picture of your car IMO:

God, I wish you weren't an HMT brother. I'd call riceboy so fast! ;D haha. I bet its a good feeling to strap yourself in that Jeep and not worry about cracking the front bumper. Let er' rip!!! ;)

Bahahahaha, I was thinking the same thing, but he did build a custom turbo setup. :-\ I have to give him mad points for that one, plus he can paint and do body work which is one of the wonders of the world to me. Everything I ever tried to do body work on is now at the junkyard. :(

if that car wasn't turbo I'd hate on it severely right now, but it does look pretty good and it's painted, so I must respect you.

Is that an after market hood cuz it looks like the headlights have been lowered to be made mean looking. And if not that is some great body work.

Re:Time for the winter beater...final pics of the fire, and some beater pics

Thanks for the props Dr. Boost

See you all have to remember everything on the car was done at home, including the paint and body work. The spoiler was custom fit, the side skirts flared out and the hood was altered.

crxrx7,

Yes its an aftermarket hood but I made the "eyelids" that your referring to.

I wont post all the progress pics of that but here is basically how i did the eyelid. I cut into the hood and put plexi glass in it and cut it where i wanted it. Then I reinforced it with a fiberglass filler.

http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RQDUA...23581211385286

If any of you want you can see the whole progress of the car in my msn group. there is a turbo project folder as well as a "sunfire progress" folder with all the bodywork

Anyways my msn group is here: http://groups.msn.com/JbodyStuff/shoebox.msnw

Oh and stealthmode, be nice...considering your one of my sponsors and all, sheesh :p

thank god its a DOHC ld9 !? those are crap! IMO anyways. My best friend has a 99 z24 and the dealer has rebuilt his motor 7 times, 3 of which they decided on a new showblock instead!! every 900KM it throws rod bearings! Ever heard of anything like this?

99 2.4, manual trans, from what i've read it doesnt happen to autos, lucky there huh airtonics!

Trust me, as bad as the DOHC's are the SOHC's are even worse. I know its hard to believe, but its true. If I never work on another low-end GM product again I'll be a happy man. They are NOT mechanics cars.

Re:Time for the winter beater...final pics of the fire, and some beater pics

I'm going to say this again.. dude you need bigger wheels, to fill in those gaps and as far as the body kit, as me and Travis would say "dude he has the shogun sensai ninja kombat body kit" ;)

I have much respect that you did all your body work, and completed your HMT kit yourself. Glad to have you apart of the HMT team, because 95% of us are all honda guys and we definatly need some more users like you :)

Re:Time for the winter beater...final pics of the fire, and some beater pics

Jeff,

Bigger wheels equal more rotating mass so I'll pass on that. I need to lower the car and that should get rid of some of that hideous wheel gap. Then again I scrape on everything already.

Thanks again for the credit/respect. I enjoy this site far more than any other to say the least.

Jeff if you see this please PM me about the projects page, I went to put it together last night and was not sure if i needed to link the photos from a website or how you wanted them...or what size.

Let me know, I'd like to be part of the projects page now that I have time to do a write-up again.

yeah, the pic in the rain is the best ive seen of her yet bro.

whys it being called rice? because its not an import and it has a kit and wing?????

Re:Time for the winter beater...final pics of the fire, and some beater pics

damn thats the only sunfire i would drive.. you should do something with the rear end with those tail lights, still looks like a sunfire from the back, but overall very badass and non rice.

haha my winter truck has 70k on it and my rex has 240k.. and the truck is in worse shape than the rex.

Re:Time for the winter beater...final pics of the fire, and some beater pics

There is a thin line between rice and nice.

That hood is badass and so is the intercooler. It seems like you can't do anything in the looks department today that isn't considered rice.
