It'd cost less to do a high CR LS with 404's after everything is said and done, the powerband would have gobs more midrange despite the 200cc displacement difference, and the peak power per buck is still higher with the LS.

If you read my post you would see i said "im sure if you dig around you could come up with some cams for cheap" I didnt mean limp **** B16 cams that would have already came in the head.IE get some aftermarket/ITR etc cams. The only B20 vtec i rode in had ITR or something cams and intake mani and it pulled pretty nice for a pretty much stock motor.

Marcus...
Sorry I didn't get a chance to call you back, been doing 13 hour days of mandatory OT at work. Anyway, back to topic...
Any way you look at it it's going to cost. If you semi-built low-buck fun with really good power, hell...since you already have a partial mini-me setup, why not just do a cheap vitara setup with a set of rods and a nice little t3 or 16g? It could definitely be done for under $1k, and as Corey can tell you you can make some really good power off this low-dollar setup and still be decently reliable. The step up to B-series costs, plain and simple, and like Chris said trying to find a tranny is like digging for gold. Once and while you come across a steal, but for the most part people want top dollar for beaten up trash. Also, if you pop a D-series motor or crack the block, you're only out a few bucks as compared to a b-series. Eventually B-series will disappear, and I'm sure a lot of people can attest to how hard it is to find good condition b-series motors these days. IMHO d-series is what you should stay with (and that's speaking from my experience too), and if you really want to keep the zc goodness, you can always build that while you rip on your low-dollar monster.
