Throw out bearing?

What does it sound like when your throw out bearing has gone bad because I have two transmissions that make a scraping, or "grinding" sound when in gear. I can hear it faintly when not in gear but it gets really loud when I let out the clutch. Are the throwout bearings on honda transmissions known to go out easily?

yeah, mine went (twice now, grr) and when you put the clutch in, there is no sound, let the clutch out (even in neutral) and it grinds like crazy.

that sounds like it. mabye after my turbo project is done I'll go ahead and throw a nice clutch in there.

Re:Throw out bearing?

if you have two transmissions, crack the one that isn't on the car open and replace ALL the bearings. you should be able to go to your local industrial bearing supply house and have them match them all up. it's 90% cheaper than ordering all 5 or 6 bearings from honda..

Re:Throw out bearing?

the main shaft bearing is what caused my new one to die so quickly. somehow if you have one bad bearing in there it will overheat and ---- the rest of them :(

so be sure to check the main shaft bearing(s) as well.
