thinking of moving fron san diego to ann arbor, mi....????

So most of my family just moved out there and are in the process of opening up a wineyard. Why... well were all lushes and land is cheap. Should I stay or should I go?

Pros...
Will never have to worry about money again(really!), but will be back under the finger of my parents again! I'm 29 and have not had to deal with them for last 11 years other then holidays. So i dont know how it will be????? Or if I can handle them.

Um, thier willing to buy me a house, cash paidededed off! Will have deed in my name!

They want to arrange a marrige for me :S

Cons...
I know no one within 15 years of my age out there, thinking i will get bored.

Never lived anywhere with seasons, snow, ice... yeah not to sure.

So if any anyone has done something like this, please let me know how you dealt with it, because right now i have a pretty good life in dago, great job(work for the state), thinking about buying a home and theres more fish in the sea then all the seas of the world here in socal...

What do you guys(and the one girl, maybe two) think???

well i just moved back in with my mom @ 28 years old. i moved in to help her with her bills, but man it sucks so much.
i remember why i wanted to move out so bad.
side note, i moved back to san diego from vegas cause i was tired of not living in san diego. now my wife and i are planning on moving out of san diego again. it's just too expensive, you work your ass off to barely get by.
no thanks, give me a small town and the easy life
i don't really have an answer for you... i love san diego too much to move that far away. i'm looking at moving a few hours away

But the whole free house thing is starting to get to me. I have till july to make up my mind so im trying to think about everything and not just jump for the easy money!

Your parents won't be around forever. Set yourself up good and get out of that mexicrat village. Some day you'll want to have kids, and 10 minutes (or whatever) outside of a big city in MI is waaaaay better than anywhere in CA. You want your kids to speak English don't you?

I gave up So Cal for cold weather, white people, and never locking my car doors again. Today I went to home depot and it was cold outside, so I just left the truck running. In CA a mexican't would have had my ---- in 2 minutes. That's not life, man.

I'd do two seperate analysis. One strictly dollars and cents. Figure out how much you make now vs how much you will spend in SF over the next 10 years. Then do the same for Ann Arbor, Mich. Obviously, in Michigan you will have more liquid cash. Then figure you lose your job at some point in either location. Where will you stand. Michigan's job market sucks. SF's is bad now too, but I don't think it's on the level of Michigan. Rate the likelihood of losing your job in either location. Obviously it's a guess, but some people can feel out things. For example, I know my job is secure for the next year because we got a new client that will cover any loss of business this year.

Then do an analysis of personal preferences. How much does weather effect you? What if your parents act like they own you after buying your house? Are there things you like to do in Michigan? What about SF?

There is no right answer. To me, you are better off in SF living your own life but I've had enough of my parents and that lifestyle so that is me speaking from the other side. I don't think either way is easy or perfect. I just know transitioning back to having to answer to your parents regularly is not an easy one for someone that's been independent for a long time.

It's 2:22AM. I made a mistake. Sue me.

Never having to worry about money again is incredibly vague. There are many levels of never having to worry about money. There are the adults that never leave home, make 35k a year, don't spend any money, and never have to worry about money to the extreme case where your parents are billionaires and you can do and buy whatever you want. Where do you fall? To me, never having to worry about money is great, but what kind of lifestyle do I have to live to never have to worry about money again? I also don't think it's in your best interest to assume you will have the charmed life for the rest of time. Look at various kids of famous/rich people who got fucked in the end with their parents not leaving them anything. Bill Gate's kids are getting $15 mill or something like that per kid. A lot of money, but it's not billions. Can't buy Ferrari's and have 10 homes with $15 mill.
