Default Thinking of getting ASE certified. Any advice?

So, I hate where my life is and what i'm doing for a living, so i figured hey, lets get certified!

I'm taking my Cisco networking certification, my A+ Computer hardware certification, and my MCSE certifcation.

Also thinking of getting some ASE certifications.
For Automobile/Light Truck, can i just take Engine repair (a1), or in order to get the certiciation do i need A1-A8 and get the full certification?

Any tips? where i can get some study materials, seeing how i'm too poor to afford school?

Lastly, is it even worth it at all?

Edit: What about ICAR?

the only thing i know about ASE certicaftion is that you have to have a ---- load of hours on the clock to make it worth anything. so unless you are gonna spend alot of time under the hood, and on the clock...
I dont know if it would be worth "just to have" type thing.

now my buddy did this...(but he got thrown into jail before the classes started)
he got into the garage at a dealer where there are alot of ASE mech's and time went by and the dealer wanted him to be one also. (he started as the oil/lube guy, shitty job but he had to get his foot into the door)so they said they would put the money up for it and make him sign a contract stating he will work for them for X amount of time or he paid for the class...(but he went to jail, and is now a complete looser getting *** raped every night)

so maybe that would be an option for you. go find a job where there are ASE mechs, and prove yourself, then just start askin....buggin your bosses.

I hope I helped you...

well, while you're on the subject. i went to a private computer school that is suppose to get you MCSE and A+ certified in 4 months and you'll be making $60k a year after that. first let me start off with, I've never been the school type. well afetr spending $500.00 in testing fees, I only got the A+ certification and one of the MCSE
requirements and I didn't learn squat! the school fee was $8,000. and i decided not to pay them so they put it on my credit report and then i had to spend $200.00 to get that negative feedback from that school, removed from my credit report! so, almost $1,000. down the drain. if you want to get MCSE certified, be prepared to read books bigger than the bibble, and also it's best and less expensive to get your MCSE education at a comunity college.

A+ certification sucks.. I spend an entire year studying that ----, and the questions they ask werent even relatively close. Its also BS because some of the questions don't count.. they're for "Future uses" (To see if they should put them on future tests).. So you could get those all right and miss a lot of others, but the ones you got right don't mean ----.. I barely failed, one kid missed by 3 points. Study hard man, read EVERYTHING.. they ask some very specific *** ----.

MCSE, isn't that the microsoft one? I know a few people with an A+ certification, and they are all into computers. It really helps if you like working with computers I guess. And some people tell me the ASE tests are hard, others tell me they're no problem.
