Things to look for when buying a car
 

Tomorrow I'm going with my friend to check out a riced out 91 teg. It's got a bunch of led crap, a body kit, exhaust, etc.

Besides the obvious of seeing if he took any shortcuts, anything else especially to look for? Any big problems with the 91 tegs?

look for bondo.
get the vin and run a carfax.

Grab a magnet, and knock on the car. Stick the magnet on areas that dont sound quite kosher. Metal = sticks, bondo = falls off. Check out every nook and cranny.

I bought my 90 with 150k on it...only problems *knock on wood* thus far were one distributor, 2 blower motors(my lazy fault, see below) and new halfshafts, other than that unless the guys totally dogged the car out daily, the DA is a solid ass car!

the only major thing to check is for wetness around the passenger floor area = seal on the firewall needs to be relpaced, if not replaced, the leak can casue the blower motor to die out and the passenger floor will get wet overnight when it sits in the rain or snow, easy fix.

Make sure its not riced out... those guys always cut corners. $100 less for every led or clear lense. Check everything, and oh yeah, don't buy it. Find a car owned by some old lady, you'll have better luck in the long run.

Always look under the car for leaks. Check the oil, smell the oil, check the coolant. If they let you, do a compression check. Check the clutch by putting in in 3rd @ low rpms and see if it slips by trying to drive it. When you drive it don't have the radio on, listen for noises.
I say don't buy it, hes gonna spend so much $$ trying to get it back to stock...unless hes into bodkits and lights, hes not your friend.

He's a noob when it comes to cars... all he sees is body kit, lowered, and 17's :-\ ... although they are black w. polished lip which is nice... idk. if he's into it then good for him... o ya.. and don't need to worry about the clutch.. it's an auto.. his mom won't let him get a 5 spd. he needs to "be able to focus on the road"

i agree dont buy it. cars like that have been beat on and you know it. plus kits and the like reduce resale value in real life. but ricers think its worth a million $$$.

ROFL. Is anyone's mom really that stupid?
If anything, automatics are more dangerous than manuals. My Saab 9000 turbo is automatic and I drive it hella fast all the time, because it requires no thought at all. Simply put the foot down from standstill and it will be doing over 100mph in a short while and I don't even have to move a finger.
