thanksgiving...what are your plans

Last year I had thanksgiving with a bunch of Marines....bring your own dish kinda thing(it was for work), and wow, was there an assortmant of food. I learned that everyone does thanksgiving a little different. (then my wife and I had some friends over for deep fat fried turkey)

I never thought of tacos or rice for thanksgiving. the thought just never corssed my mind, but some people do it.

My wife and I were going to go to someones house for a "louisana style thanksgiving" but those people had a death in the family, so we are cooking for ourselves.

Beings, my wife and I love to cook, im sure we will come up with somehting good....

so how are you doing thanksgiving and whats on the dinner table?

Re:thanksgiving...what are your plans

Well, we used to go chill with familly at my grandparents house for the day and have dinner over there, but now that we/them are older we go to a huge resturaunt that raises their own chickens, cooks them etc. So it's Chicken for me on turkey day:D The place is packed every year so at least we aren't the only wacked familly.

I'm going out to eat at a restaurant with family from my step-father's side, and going to my grandfather's house for thanksgiving (traditional style).

Re:thanksgiving...what are your plans

damn... frank your thanksgivings sound delicious :-\ My thanksgivings consist of a dry turkey my auntie makes. I plan on buying a prebaked/stuffed turkey, but I'd better go get one soon huh :P Either that or a honeybaked ham.

So my thanksgiving, one of the above plus a little time with family plus work... yay.

Re:thanksgiving...what are your plans

i love to do "outdoor cooking" such as bbq'n, grillin, cooking soups over an open fire, fryin foods...and my new thing is i want to learn how to cook with dutch ovens.

so far, im going to deep fat fry a turkey that will be injected with a "southern style injection"

and im going to come up with some kind "southern style" stuffing.

the rest is up to my wife. (but im sure we will do the cooking together)

ohh yeah...and its just my wife and i this year. :'( but it will be all good...

Thanksgiving for me is tomorrow and we're cooking steaks instead of the played out trendy turkey. I'm taking a 4 day weekend and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it. 8)

That means tomorrow is FRIDAY. :o

Re:thanksgiving...what are your plans

My wife and I arent making the 800 mile trip home, so we are going to have a fairly traditional turkey dinner here with some friends who didnt travel home for the holiday. Since there is no family that means there is a lot more drinking, which is cool. We go pretty traidtional with the food, but we have to have at least 1 or 2 Italian dishes. The one thing I miss is the pepperoni. In my family they take the meatballs, sausage, and pepperoni, throw it in a big pot of sauce, and let it simmer for hours so all the oils from the different meats mix. God Damn I am going to miss that.

Re:thanksgiving...what are your plans

my turkey is marinating.....
its injected with beer, some tony's, garlic, salt, worsersire sauce, and lime juice.
then on the outside its rubbed with kosher salt, and some more tonys. this ---- is going to be good.

if you look where its discolored around the leg and near the wing, that discoloration is the injection

D16forlife:
i have smoked about 10 turkeys already this summer and stuff....do a mixture of charcole, and hickory. soak the hickory in water for about an hour and make sure the charcole is white before you put it in the smoker.(start the charcole in a "chimney"
ohh yeah, and make sure you have a water pan to. that turkey will be absoutly mouthwatering. one more tip, cook it till the breast temp is 160 degrees then when you take it off the smoker, wrap it in foil and let it sit for about 20min. mmm....
read up. im on this board alot also...

Ive just never done a whole turky.Last year I dismemberd it.I just hope this thing cooks all the way through in time. Its going to take a while so I think Im gonna start it up early in the morning.

I usually start my coals with a propane torch.I hate lighter fluid.

But Ill take that last tip. Thanks! ;D

Has anyone here tried Turducken?
I just heard about it and it looks kinda creepy. It is a hen inside of a duck which is inside of a turkey and layered with stuffing.
