test drove a M3 today!!!!

i was looking at M3s on ebay the other night and i saw there was one in my town for sale http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2474513188

so i write him an email with my phone number and he calls me back.So went to his house this morning and checked it out...then he pulls out these MOMO slipper things and i'm like thinking to myself this guy is one of those....anyway long story short the guy is an amazing driver and the car is even more amazing it's in excellent shape and really well kept up not to mention he's like 40 years old...he took me around an almost 90 degree turn around 70, maybe a lil more and the car felt fine and it screamed like a bitch through the turn, just raw power...so moral of the story you guys think i should buy it?? i mean it would be like my entire bank account but something is telling me it's worth it

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

You have a nice bank account there ;D. Two things,1) thats not the greatest price or car for that price. ive seen them go cheaper.
2) Bmw's arent the most reliable cars and when something goes wrong its really going to cost you some $. im not saying buy a Honda.. but be open minded.

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

I test drove one of them over the summer and it was real nice. The only thing I don't like about them is I think they style looks dated and will keep looking older becuase of how boxy they are. The newer M3's are just amaizing

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

yea i know man i have a 318is and the car is phat it's just slow :-\ the handling is amazing though.....na the e36 looks more aggresive i think the new ones are too round and bitch like although i wouldn't mind pimpin one...333hp!! yea i have seen them cheaper too but this guy is nuts about it i would kinda feel bad buying it he showed me all the ---- he put in it and everything he really took care of it....usually there beat to ---- because no one in america understands what matinence is they just drive the car until something breaks...and it costs more in the long run

i was behind one the other day at a light and my guess is he doesn't like honda's because he lit the rubber up effortlessly giving my front bumper a tase of m3 rubber, it was nice though ;D

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

That price is a little high for that car, even if it is in excellent condition. M3s are like anything else; even if they are well maintained, performance modifications de-value the car. I'd expect to pay that much for the car only if it was bone-stock. Pay no more than $13k-$14k for that car i'd say. These are sweet cars, and you CAN take care of them yourself (like your honda) but it's much more work. To avoid costly trips to the mechanic, plan on buying an OBDII scan tool and M3 manual at least. You can't even bleed the brakes without it. :P

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

i dont know ---- about bmw. But i know one thing for sure 14 1/2 g's is way to much for a car that has 90 miles on it. My car had 50,000 miles on it and it was worth 10 gs and it was a 99. That 97 bmw is only worth a thousand less than that in the kelly blue book from a private owner. I just quess the conditions on the car

Think about this. If you buy that car and you have lost your licence (sp) before the insureance company might not insure you. And if they do it will be for a lot of cash. Just get a honda and you can make it faster that that car if you do it right for $14,000 and handle great to. My friend plans on making an 11 second hatch for $7,000 car and all. I don't think he can do it but he wants to try. You could do that with $14,000. Just over night some parts from Japan. ;) ;D

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

yea man thats what my high school was like and i was always competing with the rich kids...but yea i know with 14 grand under the hood of a civic it would be insane....really insane....but in the end you still have a civic no matter how you look at it...no way in the world will you get a civic to handle anywhere near a bimmer it will just never be the same..i have driven both cars and been in countless bimmers and hondas and you can't compare the two...my sisters RSX type-S (which i have been driving all week because she went away again) doesn't even feel as hood as my 318is with H&R springs and stock shocks....i can take turns a lot more comfortably......but back to the matter at hand i don't think i'm going to get the car because he wrote me an email saying he has a very intrested buyer hahaha so there goes that one

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

this is the worst generation of an M3 you can buy. the e30 m3s (1985) and the e46 (2001) are the only generations with ITBs (Individual Throttle Bodies, better throttle response, even intake distribution etc.). also, this e36 gen M3 is notorious for having ECU problems. and a new ECU for these things range from 3000-5000 washingtons. and...it doesn't really look like an m3, without the emblem. iono, i just think these are the sorriest m3s to ever be called an M3.

yayopwrcrx 04-25-2004 11:16 PM

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

the e30 was only a four banger and the e46 is like 40 grand....i gotta work with what i got man.....but yea it looks like i'm keeping my bimmer until i get enough dough to buy a new one...i found out the hard way that if these aren't cared for from day one they are nothing but problems

damn in my highschool days, 10% of the senior class have cars and their were shitty cars. And nobody think about turboing because it was money and brains. must be nice to boost every morning to school.

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

my goal is to be able to own a newer m3 (not actually own one, but kill one on the street with ---- talking BMW freaks in it) they run what 13.6 in the 1/4? IDK i just hate stuck up 3 series owners that think they are the ----... yay you have a 318i

yayopwrcrx 04-29-2004 07:26 PM

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

bro you gotta drive one....i thought exactly the same as you are....a honda with 7gs can blow a lot of things away...but is it going to be as comfortable? NO practical? NO handle any where near a bimmer? hell ------- NO-best of all you can rape a M3 everyday to work and if you just do the schedueled matinence you won't have to worry about blowing up your engine

accordepicenter 04-29-2004 08:41 PM

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

im not sayint theyre not really nice (they are...) In my book creativity/originality wins over creature comfort and practicality (this is why people ride motorcycles), buying a car like that is nice but id rather build somthing than get it off the shelf, then pocket the $40k i saved. Ive driven them (non m3 but newer 3 series) and their handling is very nice, and theyre very comfortable and dead quiet. i think i hate the owners rather than the car, so having a turbo honda instead of paying out the ass for a newer bmw is more out of spite for their owners, meanwhile doing somthing people said cant be done (making the accord fast).

Re:test drove a M3 today!!!!

an m3 is one of my dream cars. bmw's are in my opinion some of the best cars out there and when you ride in them you don't hear any road noise or things rattling on the car like in many others. they are made solid. even though they weigh about 2 tons some of them can get up and go as well.
