VTEC heads with miles on them needing machine shop attention still command $400, whereas I gave B16CRXT a free (to me, and to him) LS head that had just been hot tanked and resurfaced. The big hold up in the LS head is the intake valve, and you can upgrade to B20A3/5 or B21A1 33mm units for free if you ask around.

Interesting...

Is it necessary to open up the throat to complement the the larger valves as is often the case in most cylinder heads?

The CRV heads are LS heads.

The B20A/B21A heads are a cross between LS, H23, and retarded. Since Old Man Trimnal scattered his stock block B21 at Rockingham, I suppose I'll get to find out what a bored and stroked B20A with cams and headwork feels like.

31mm intake valves are the reason why LS make a better NA build up to the 180 whp level, because 33 makes things too peaky unless you have the CR, cams, and revs to make 31mm intakes be a restriction. Honestly, you can't rev an LS past 8k reliably, so it'd be well past a 400 whp build before it made a difference. Just a guess, aside from myself, Speedy, and a local guy, no one builds LS for me to play with. I've tuned more ITRs than I have LS.

Tweek, you remove me from ashEVILle and you remove my ready access to parts, tools, and hardcore pipe hitting trailertrash who roll out of bed at 4am to bust heads or spin wrenches when I call them. You come to ashEVILle, you sleep on my couch.
