What side of the chain you drive the distributor off of dictates it's rotation.
Pelegri Didier had to press the reluctors off the shaft and press them on backwards when he reversed the rotation on a B16.

I think you've got too into the drag car mentality.
i-Vtec isn't about power, its about economy and COP ignition is about economy as well, by running sequential injection/ignition you get to lean out the burn.
So yeah, k-series doesn't do ---- for top end, but it does lend a bit of flexibility and cleans up the engine. After all, no manufacturer wastes money unless they have to. And Euro4 or whatever, states they have to!

i'm a big fan of the b series engine, they are very robust engines, it's just a shame to see the k series engine not be able to show itself as being a tough contender, because it does have some very cool features, the biggest one being the high flowing cylinder head.
