tell me if this is an "okay" idea

well i want to get a good free flowing exhaust for my 94 ex but dont want to spend the money for a name brand.... so would it be alright if i just bought some 2.5-3" piping and some mandrel bends and mady my own exhaust pipe? from the header back to the muffler... no resonator or anything, unless i welded it in, but would it do anything bad for performance? i'm going to hopefully be running a nice t3... let me know what you guys think

Nothing wrong with that, that's the best bang for your buck right there. I put a 24" resonator in mine and a generic turbo muffler with no cat and it sounds almost as quiet as stock, and flows nicely.

that's what i plan on doing, but I will be putting muffler of some kind on there. most likely a 3" louvered core something...just something to knock a little more sound out.

holy ------- ----.

i striaght piped my rally civic.. and everything went to hell 3 weeks later.. oil leaks.. wouldnt accelerate right.. wouldnt idle right.. wouldnt do anything right!
i still cant find out if thats why.. but i heard you need some back pressure for the engine to work properly...
a strait pipe is loud as ----.. why would you want it? i needed it to scare away deer.. and warn other drivers i was coming on the trail.. i did it after i almost crashed into an ass that was going the wrong way on the trail...

buy a glasspack muffler run a straight pipe.. and stick the glasspack anywhere you want.. lol... thats what i have now...

meh... hope i helped...

*edit* the most awesome thing about a straight pipe at the backpops, when you accelrate hard.. then take your foot off the gas.. you hear a pop.. kinda like a throaty pop... makes it sound so ------- awesome.. i wonder what a turboes pop would sound like 8)

Well not having a resonator is a very good chance its going to be louder/annoying than you may want. I'd at least buy a resonator and have it on hand just in case you need it, if not, return it.

A straight pipe exhaust is the best thing for turbo car, period. Actually, no exhaust is the best thing. You don't need any backpressure from the exhaust, and the turbo itself acts as a muffler. It will not be ridiculously loud as it would with an N/A car.

well..unless of course it's internally gated..iternal wastegates require some back pressure to operate where needed O0

I always run a minimum of 1 resonator and 1 muffler.

im running a 2.5in "turbo" muffler from dynomax in place of my cat and than a magnaflow 3" muffler where the stock muffller goes and without the magnaflow its loud! with it it sounds perfect. I say make your own exhaust but grab a magnaflow to throw in there wherever space allows.

Nothing wrong with doing it yourself. Thats the HMT way.
