its got to be a mouse or a rat, i moved into a brand new house heard the same thing, got a bunch of mouse traps, killed them all or i thought(4 at the same time on 1 trap ), went on year after year, you will never git rid of them, its socal, and its starting to get into the 60's

I agree with the mouse idea, might have been there so long that thats just a spot they've found is easy refuge from the cold. I'm in for the mouse Donald. Before you cook it let a cat loose in the rafters . Otherwise just get one of those ultrasonic thingies that you plug into a electrical outlet and "supposely" gets rid of rodents and other things. Or just get a hammer and take some aggression out.
