taking it outta gear without clutch... good or bad

it saves the clutch but is it bad for the forks, lets debate about this, i'd say its not bad for the forks if you tap the gas slightly and pull it out. anyone care to post their opinion/knowledge?

eh, i do/did it anyways. Sometimes i would even shift gears without the clutch. I'm sure it doesn't harm much.

i've heard it's bad for the synchrose and the fork.

As long as you don't YANK it out of gear it shouldn't hurt anything, as for shifting without the clutch, YES it's very bad on the synchros, and if you bang it hard enouph it is possible to hurt the forks too, they aren't the strongest things yaknow...think of how small things get it there...

after you give it gas it comes out of gear without the clutch with ease, you don't have to force it so that can't be bad for anything. I shift without the clutch in my civic, no grinding, just magic.

Bah, its like rev matching, if its smooth its probably not going to hurt anything.

You are lucky, sounds like you know right where the sweet spots are between gears, but don't miss your rpm or GRIIND! I don't think it's worth the risk! not to me anyway...if you can get it to work, more power to ya!

if you shift right about 3k, it usually slides right in without a clutch, i do it ever now and then if i'm felling gay, never hurt anything. but as far as just slipping it in to neutral out of a gear without the clutch, i don't see how that could hurt anything at all

I do it every once in a while, And I just let my left foot hang out of the window. Impresses the friends LOL. Or you can have the passenger shift for you and you've got a full on automatic. Who even remembers how to drive one of those things?

I've seen a friend do that with his escort and i thought it was magic. Im not sure how to do it really but i usually shift at 3k rpm. So it would just switch gears smoothly? As far as taking it outta gear without clutch i always use the clutch

Re:taking it outta gear without clutch... good or bad

put light pressure on the shifter when it is out of gear, at 3200-3700 and when it wants to go it'll just slip in. don't put ienough pressure to where it grinds just enough to find out what RPM it wants to g in at. BTW it is different for each gear. and is easier on the downshift.

BTW I would never do it on my own car, what reason do you have to put your synchros in jeopardy?

hahaha, it's funny when people think it's magic shifting without the clutch, I love the... huuurr whaaa did you do?. I've only done it up shifting, cause if I'm too lazy to step on the clutch, why make the extra effort to downshift when I could just step on the brakes.

Re:taking it outta gear without clutch... good or bad

ya, like bamboo said, just light pressure and it will go itself. if you know your tranny well enough you can do no clutch down shifting, it's fun as ----.

Yeah, driving my mom's car is kinda rough for the first few miles. I find myself stepping on the brake with my left foot while I'm driving and ----.

Maybe someone should try racing without using the clutch and see how well that works? ::)
