Which swap is for me?

So I plan on getting a Honda Crx in a few months and I was wondering what swap is for me. This car will be a daily driver and will be boosted to 7-9psi. I don't want high hp just enough to run 13.5s with slicks. I don't want to spend a fortune either. I was thinking about a b16a, but then I went to d-series.org and the guys there said that I can run 13.5s with a d. Pretty much I would like to get a fairly cheap and reliable swap with turbo.

What year and model CRX?

sounds like a swaped in non turbo 1.0liter firefly engine would suit you perfectly ;)

Re:Which swap is for me?

I'd say.. D16Z6, if you just want to buy a complete engine for it ;D

I'd turbo the stock D 'til she blows though :P

Re:Which swap is for me?

I've got a D16y8 and ran 13.86 at 10psi with drag RADIALS if that helps.

dual port d15. 2 injectors keeps weight down.

Re:Which swap is for me?

How do you think one of these d-series swaps will cost me? The motor just bolts in right?

check this out^^also check the 1/4 mile time thread.
get a JDM D15B. you can pick one up for like 500 shipped, then get an almost ready kit from the classifides section for like 4-500 and you are a 13sec car for about a grand.

^^^^^^dam this sounds so easy...I wish I had a grand...

also if this helps you any, i "am driving" a 89 CRX with a B20 mated to an LS tranny, and im running low 14's on street tires, no other mods than a I/H/E. so with a small snail Im sure low 13's are possible. slicks, high 12's I think would be realistic. I think this could be done for about $12-1500

IMO I would go with the first set-up.
keep us updated man!

Re:Which swap is for me?

if your not going yo swap the motor out yourself. this could get very expensive. if your doing it yourself tho. stick with with the D. its fine for the numbers you want.

Re:Which swap is for me?

I would be doing it myself with the help of my dad. He builds hotrods so I think we can get it done. Just for fun, the project he is working on right now is a 1934 Ford Victoria with a 454 bored out to 498. Talk about balls, I guess the trim he has is so rare there are probably only 40 left in the US.

Re:Which swap is for me?

I would keep the engine thats in it, get some webber carbs, do like a N20 set-up on it, maybe some boost to. there are parts out there for it, just a little harder to find.

Re:Which swap is for me?

Does the JDM D15b just bolt right in? If not what modifications do I have to do to get it in there?

Re:Which swap is for me?

direct swap, and minor wiring. very easy. pretty straight forward, d series for d series....

Re:Which swap is for me?

Here are a few pictures of the car. I talked to the guy on his cell so I got some info, but not all. Its got 200,000 miles, cd player, 5speed, ac works, clean interior, he said that the clutch was loose and it needed to be adjusted or something. He is asking for $1500, but I think I can get it for $1200-$1300.

7 grand later ::)

Best bet would be go B-series, best platform right now, tons of aftermarket support, easy to find parts, cost isnt to bad, and later on if you decide to build it up it and boost it, it will tear you a new ------- :)

Re:Which swap is for me?

My plan right now is to buy a jdm d15 and turbo it, then after 6 months or whatever to get all my finances straight, b16a swap and I will have most of my turbo setup ready to do.

SkunT 08-03-2004 08:27 PM

Re:Which swap is for me?

I still say a D series for the 13 sec mark...

HMT-Admin 08-03-2004 08:39 PM

Re:Which swap is for me?

Your goals will simply change over time, and just my advice, its better to start with a b-series platform from the getgo. Save yourself money in the long run.

if you read, he can get the mounts from them for 350- and the linkage for 50 more. I have heard many many good things about hmotorsonline.com

where do you live man. sounds like your first swap...
its ok, we all start somewhere. I asked where you live, because im sure someone would help you out if you want it.

yeah pretty much everything there is what you need. of coarse you wanna change the fluids, some people like to put new belts on, new water pump...but no necessary. the fluids are necessary, but the pump, belts arent...

SkunT 08-04-2004 11:27 AM

Re:Which swap is for me?

THis also would be a good deal...a really really really easy swap. take one out, put one in. and chip your ECU.

either of the bottom 3
http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc...Engines&hit=15

I have always just over looked the ZC engines. I have noticed though people boosting them and breaking the 13 sec mark...

I'm from Rapid City, South Dakota. It's half an hour away from the Sturgis Rally that is happening next week. I can't wait there is going to be tons of bikers all over town since most people stay here.

definitely a jet engine, all the way... but for real, stay D-series it makes things cheaper

Re:Which swap is for me?

I vote for the d-series. I just picked up a Z6 longblock for $200 and I got a Z6 tranny a while ago for $40. Let's see those b-series guy do that. ;)
