the drop is ~1.75".. and you probably ADDED ~1" with 16's and big tires. 15's on 195 are all you need

Big tires? A 195/50 15 is bigger in diameter than a 205/40 16, and 205/40's are lo pro by my standards.

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

ok when I was compressing the old ones I compared them with the new ones and the new once looked to be around 2 inches shorter. ill call tokico as soon as they open to see what they say, cuz I really have no idea.

This is actually how these springs are supposed to work. They don't lower for ----. My friend actually just put them on his Accord and got VERY similar results, it only lowered him around an inch.

Attachment 36146

Excuse the dirty car, he drove through a snow storm to the meet.

The only thing wrong with your suspension is that you didn't research the parts you installed on it thoroughly enough.

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

its on my 97 civic. ok wtf then the guy said "High performance Tokico lowering springs, with a 1.75 inch drop" that’s fucked up if what you say its true.

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

make sure you did put the springs at the right place (front and rear)
new shocks and springs take time to settle. usually it takes like a week or so for the spring to SAG to the right height.

zex_cool 02-17-2006 12:25 PM

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

I checked for that and it has a 5049-F on the front and 5049-R on the rear, so I guess ill measure it in a couple days.

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

i talked to tokico tech support and all he said was to make sure that everything is installed correctly. i checked it and everything seems to be in order. the car drives/turns, a little stiffer but nothing too bad. i also called the seller and he said give it a MONTH for them to settle in b/c of NEW shocks and NEW springs. i really hate the way it looks it looks exactly like stock suspension. i even put on the old rims to see if it looks any lower, but still nothing. A REALLY NEED SOME HELP.

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

stock tire to new 16" u prob added like 2"
u gave a 1.75" drop over stock
you old ass 1997 stock susp wont be at stock hight any more. the prings wear and sag.

you can always cut off a couple of coils on the springs to drop a bit more hight.
ps do it out of the car and remove the peice u cut off and u have to still align with the spot where the spring stops

Donald125 02-17-2006 08:42 PM

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

205/40/16 is SMALLER then the stock 14s with stock tires :l
and by all means why would you suggest him to cut the springs :l

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

I compared the old tires and the new once and the older once are a little bit "taller" then the new once. talked with a guy at a tire place and he said that the springs might be too stiff for my car, the car is not heavy enough to compress the spring. I also talked to the seller and he viewed the pictures and said that he never saw anything like that before. he said that he'll call tokico and have them send me out a new pair. anyone have any idea on what kind of spring weight is on a stock civic ? and the once that i have on right now.

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

if your getting a new set, then go ahead and cut the spring. i like cut stock springs cuz they ride like stock, but are still lowering your car. i have coilovers though, so i don't need them. cut springs kill shocks quicker than normal cuz of the angle on the spring. since you cut it, the top isn't flat anymore.

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

Im pretty sure that ill have to send the used once back to them. I don’t really wanna do anything that will ---- up with my warranty, since it’s a LIFETIME one.

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

Cut springs ride like stock?

That's news to me. So what is causing all my ricer friends to bounce violently over rough sections on the road?

I'm telling you the springs were designed to make it ride that high. They might settle a tad but that's all, not going to settle a whole 2 inches and give you the JDM ass Ricer look you're looking for. They might advertise 1.75" but in there it probably says "appxomately" or "lowering may depend on make/model of car." Basically you're not always going to get the advertised lowering amount.

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

if it dropped an inch I would be happy. it didn’t do ---- ill leave them on for a week or so to see what happens, then ill put on the new once that they send.

uh, did you read my post? cut springs do right like stock till you ---- your shocks up. Cut springs kill shocks faster. thats whats making your homo ricer friends bounce like a basketball all over the road. tell them to stop being cheap and get a good stut/coilover combo.

N1ghtM0nkey 02-18-2006 02:00 AM

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

It must have instantaneously fucked their shocks up, then. O0

My ricer friends don't listen to me, thats why they've all blown up or wrecked atleast 1-2 cars, some of them 3-4. Meanwhile I've never blown a car up or wrecked one. Hmm, guess being a ricer causes ---- to break and for you to lose control.

I know what is wrong.
You put back that silver ring that goes on the strut before you put the black sleeve back on.
Take it off and voila. 8)

Re: Suspension problem . . . need help ASAP

I hope that`s not the case or else it`d be riding on solid suspension??
