Default Stupid computer problem. [nsfw]

I'll keep it simple.

Laptop, had vista, uninstalled, put XP on.

Had to load a lot of drivers manually.

DVD drive is : MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-850S

Comes up as a CD-RW only. Its a DVD-/+RW though.

Found a bunch of ---- online about editing the registry, well, I don't have the registry keys that would be there. Then again, it seems that every page I brought up was about problems in Vista.

I've uninstalled the ---- to try to reinstall it, and it still comes up as CD-RW. I insert a DVD+R and it does squat, doesnt recognize it. "Found New Hardware - CD-ROM drive" is what it comes up when I reinstall it.

Tried to find drivers. Couldnt find ----.

Help?

never uninstall laptop drivers unless you go to the website and see the drivers for the version of the OS you want

I downgraded my Toshiba and it works 10 times faster with XP than with Vista.
All my drivers were on the Toshiba site
