re-drill and re-tap.

Re:stripped out head stud threads
using heli-coil? and would i need to bring it to a machine shop?
|
Re:stripped out head stud threads
i dont know if a heli-coil would like all that torque, but you could try. i dont think its wise to drill and tap a head bolt hole... call a machine shop and ask.

Re:stripped out head stud threads
I would let the machine shop handle this, or at least tell you how to handle it.

Re:stripped out head stud threads
I did the same thing on my ls/vtec.. I luckly found a longer head bolt I beleive off a older Z car.. I'm still crossing my fingers on that one ;)

Re:stripped out head stud threads
Heli Coil won't work, forget that one. Drill and tap *should* work, hnless tha aluminum in that area is reinforced. Machine shop is going to charge you a few hundred bucks to get this done. Look into it more and weigh out your options.

Re:stripped out head stud threads
I'd try this out first. It'll only cost you $65 to try it and it looks like you'll get other uses from it.
HTS-2000 Aluminum Repair Rod Watch the video where they create new threads in an aluminum block then break the head off a Grade 5 bolt trying to strip them out. It looks to be a decent product to me so far, but I don't know anyone that has actually used it yet. I've been waiting for something to use it on since I first heard about it a few months ago. |
Re:stripped out head stud threads
That product looks really badass. I wonder how toxic it is to work with. Probably no more toxic than welding fumes but who knows.

Re:stripped out head stud threads
well what the hell? i am having trouble logging in as southerncivic. i gave the heli-coil a shot and i must say, it was relatively easy and it feels as though the heli-coil will set with no problem i'll find out soon enough. it was a very clean non-toxic procedure
