Re: stripped head stud
wait.....you stripped the stud putting it into the head or while tightening the nut down?
|
Re: stripped head stud
tightning the nut down
|
Re: stripped head stud
wow....why cant you just get it out with vise-grips?
|
Re: stripped head stud
Wow... I thought they were made out of harder material than that...
It's going to be a bitch getting that thing off of there.... heat it up maybe? |
Re: stripped head stud
Use the allen wrench hole in the top of the stud to back it out.
|
Re: stripped head stud
i was trying with the allenkey but the piece of ---- allen key i had just twisted, im going to try with the vice grips... get it out some how ;),.... thanks for all the advice :)
|
Re: stripped head stud
some of them dont have allen holes in the top either :(
|
Re: stripped head stud
Get a better allen key set.
|
Re: stripped head stud

Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
man i cant see how you stripped a arp headstud nut.
does it just spin around on the stud now? you might take all the rother studs nut's off and have some buddies lift up on the head to put pressure on the stud so as you turn it comes up just an idea. |
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
well the 12 point nut rounded off, i dunno how i was going over the the nuts the second time at like 61 ft lbs or whatever it calls for and i was turning it slow as hell and the nut rounded off on the stud, so I am going to get a better allen key tomorrow and try gettin it off that way, if not im going to try vice grips, ill take some better pics of the nut when it comes off so u can see it, if i can get it off O0
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
so the nut got rounded over or the threads are fucked?
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
just the nut, the stud is fine
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
oh wow...did you not use a deep enough socket or something?
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
what size socket were you using? 6pt i hope?
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
12 pt 13mm, it was a 12 pt nut
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
You're supposed to use a 12pt 12mm socket on a 10mm nut... ::)
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
I don't see how in the hell you could strip that nut putting it on. are you sure the stud wasn't going through the top of the nut pushing the socket off the top. I bet thats what it is because ti would seem like its stripped. Use a deep well, you might have to force it on, if its just the top of the nut fucled up.
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
yeah uhh 13mm?
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
I was thinking about that to, but none of the other nuts felt like that, its raining here now so i gotta wait till tomorrow or sunday....
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
And about socket length, I counter sink the head studs to the point that there is very little sticking out of the tightened nut. I simply use a drill and drill out the block threads to make the stud sit further down into the block. This reduces deck distortion by making the deck thicker against the clamping forces.

Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
id find somthing that fits around it tighter and hammer that socket right on the nut... that or use some kind of bolt-out...
|

Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
In the worst case you could be able to sacrifice the stud and drill it out. They already have a hole in the middle to start from but the steel is pretty tough on the drills I bet.
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
Well im gunna try pullen the whole stud out with an allen key again, the only thing im worried about is if Im going to have to take all the studs out and start over, or if I can just pull that stud out and get a new nut and then torque it back donwn and then torque the rest of the studs that arent finished yet....
|
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
take a smaller sized 12 point socket 1/2 drive, if its 13 mm use 12 and smash it on ------ hard untill its seated the whole way, it will come out. I do this at work but I use snap on sockets so I hope your socket doesnt split.

Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
I had just run into a simular situation with arp.
I was torquring down my head, and i noticed i was missing my 12point nut THE CORRECT SOCKET SIZE TO USE IS 1/2. it is a STANDARD socket. anways, i call arp, and they sent me an arp nut for free, and i asked to overnight it to me. they didnt give me a total, well the next day, there is a nice package on my door step.. 26 dollar shipping!!1 WOW THEY FUCKED ME anways. 12point 1/2 inch socket DEEP use it. not metric. |

Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
Well then I guess that was simple enough, this dipshit used the wrong size socket. I thought he could have figured that out on his own being that he could hold the nut in his hand and put it in the socket. I guess we should have started with righty tighty lefty loosey

Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
I would never ever ever never ever touch my motor with a drill.
Never. They don't make arp studs with modifications in mind anyway. |
Re: stripped head stud *pics added*
Oh they don't make Honda motors with turbos in mind either and look where we are...
