stolen cars
thought I'd put some cliffnotes: bought CRX, spent 3x what I got it for, freaked about it getting stolen, looking for other options, suggestions?
just the paranoid part of me here, but in December I picked up another CRX and have since been dumping money into it to make it road worthy and pretty cosmetically. I've basically have been lagging on completing the car because I'm freaked out about it getting stolen. I've dumped like over 3 times the cost of the car in it already. So my question is, what import that is fun like a Honda that you own or have owned that you would be comfortable modifying and putting pretty $$$ on it and not worry too much about it getting stolen? I'm actually really interested in a Nissan 240 or 180 and doing an S13 front right now. Suggestions? Experiences? The Honda scene's theft problem is just that ridiculous. :( |
Re: stolen cars
???
That's why I'm getting my car appraised. It almost got stolen about a month ago. I'd only get 2500 bucks for it from the insurance company. |
Re: stolen cars
a house with a garage?
or put a big ass kennel in your driveway if you dont have a garage.. instead of being used to keep ------s in, you can use it to keep ------s out O0 :-* id imagine a garage/gate is your best bet against someone stealing your ---- :-\ |

Re: stolen cars
Miata. You only need ¬200whp to make one a happy little ride.
|
Re: stolen cars
get stickers made that clearly indicate that the owner of the crx is a sleep deprived loonatic
|
Re: stolen cars
Why dont you get a good alarm and throw some extra kill switches in there? Remove the ECU when you leave it for long periods of time.
JD is right about the miata. Nobody will steal one of those girly ass cars. :p They are camber adjustable from the factory though. :) |
Re: stolen cars
Keep it stock looking with hub caps. And garage kept I think you'll be alright. All the stuff that screams steal me is what gets it stolen

Re: stolen cars
The Honda community is lacking moral fiber. It has been for a long time. I wouldnt even consider dumping money into a Honda unless you dont plan on going to the mall or the movies wth it for the entire time you own it. I had 3 other cars to drive at the time but I was always nervous about my hatch. I wouldnt leave it anywhere that it would be unsupervised. I had an alarm with ignition disable but that wasnt enough. I pulled the ecu everywhere I went. I am sick of that ----. I have a stock 4 door that is a grocery getter. I felt the urge to turbo it but I wont be able to leave it anywhere without that sinking feeling. Its sad but true.

Re: stolen cars
Weird, I never worry about my car being stolen.
----, one of the cars has been sitting at the apartment complex unlocked for over half a year with valuable ---- inside it and nobody has touched it... Regardless, I don't spend thousands on useless car parts that would be stolen anyway. |

Wanna know why the all motor scene became so popular in california right there. You would be amazed how many stock grandma looking civics show up to tracks out here. I guess no matter what the intercooler is a dead giveaway. |
Re: stolen cars
paranoia will destroy ya
not much you can do if you plan on keeping that rex and fixiing it up. get some kill switches and pull the ecu. dont paint it. have donuts on it. let it rust. blow the motor, burn the seats. maybe then youll be ok. |

Re: stolen cars
how about insurance, an alarm, and a real kkill switch
|
Re: stolen cars
Just drive it man.
I really need one :P |
Re: stolen cars
after owning 5 CRX's and not finishing a single one of them as planned before selling them, I thought for once I will make this CRX the way I envisioned it and it would suck to have that all taken away. I guess I have reason to be paranoid, one of my CRX's got stolen one night even with the ecu removed. Some theives are just well prepared. It still haunts me to this day. :'(
I love CRX's more than any other car, but the frequwncy of thefts is freaken ridiculous. I see guys near where I live with 240sx's with S13 front ends and pretty rims on them that just park their cars on the street, sometimes like a block away from their apt complex, it looks like they dont worry too much :-\ Dave said it best with:

Re: stolen cars
Yup, Miatas are pretty fun.
I've thought about buying one but didn't want a car with the homo stereotype. The Honda driver stereotype isn't much better so I think I might buy an old 1st gen beater next time. RWD FTW |
Re: stolen cars
any car built to murdoc-vision would be a target.
just finish what you started and quit pussing out. I'll send you a LA County wheel boot to prevent the car from being stolen. |
Re: stolen cars
Is it still that bad in LA with car theft with honda's? I haven't visited HT in almost a year and remembered like almost every other day there was a post about someone's car getting jacked. I say just build it cause you can't live in fear your whole life...well you can but how fun is that? :-\ ---- happens bro...build it and have fun. I say like be creative and make like a lock out tag out type box out of some heavy gauge steel and put your ecu connectors in it. Can't really do a whole lot if they can't get to the connectors to plug a ecu in. Since your a mad baller. Like pay a bum with cheeseburgers and crack to sit in your car over night to watch it.

Re: stolen cars
I got a sinking feeling when I drove to the pool hall the other day. That place is packed with immoral little kids and low-lifes. There was also a Mexican dance hall next door. I actually had no fear of the mexi's, just the punk-ass kids in the pool hall.
People just suck. |
Re: stolen cars
run all motor
get really big ------ injectors good luck getting it to run on a stock ecu all it will do is crank all day long |
Re: stolen cars

Re: stolen cars

(i was thinking 240 but that is quickly becoming the new honda).

300 in 9 months I think thats what gets stolen in LA in an evening. Honestly build it for a 2nd car and Ill think you'll be alright. |
Re: stolen cars
Buy a Legacy wagon!
I was never worried for a long time. But now that my wagon is fast, and it stands out at the strip, I lock it up in a garage. If I didnt have the "fancy" racing strips and stuff, I wouldnt worry. But dicks steal stuff, and vehicles that stand out are going to get fingered more often than dirty station wagons filled with kid crap. |
Re: stolen cars
move to Japan. My car's windows are down, the Ipod is on the seat, my wifes windows are down in the EVO, there is a GSR motor and a LSD tranny sitting right in front of my car, uncovered...its 820pm and I dont plan on going back down to my car until around 6am tommorow morning. ^-^ Honestly, like JD said, a miata. Bacially a RWD EG. like driving a go-cart and parts are everywhere if you know where to look.
|
Re: stolen cars
isnt it illegal for anyone to own a gun in japan except law enforcement? And crime is dealt with harshly. Thats how it needs to be here. Start putting thieves on death row and that ---- will stop.
|
Re: stolen cars
Well I have to live in fear, cause this may as well be the last Honda I modify. I'm sick of the scene, but I still have the itch for it inside. I know it isn't right to live in fear, but I fear losing a LOTT of money that was invested in this car and no way is insurance gonna cover all of it, unless I do declarations of value which will then in turn raise my rates which then would make full coverage useless due to the rates.
It's a toss up right now. The car was primered yesterday and ready for paint, but I got called into work. So it should be painted soon. Oh and I would move to Japan, but as shitty as SoCal is, I love it here :-\

Re: stolen cars
Murdizzle, you ever see those storage unit places that you throw crap in from your house or whatnot? Get a larger one and keep the rex there. :6 No one would know where it was held, you have a lock on that bitch and you could throw a wheel boot on it for extra security just in case O0 I knew a kid who had a ~11 second early 70's monte carlo that he was worried about getting stolen so he did just that. Haven't seen him in a while, but when he wanted to go cruise in it he'd pull it out and put his car in. Worked out nice, was only like $30 a month.
